Algo VPN is an open-source set of Ansible scripts for deploying a personal WireGuard or IPsec VPN server. It is designed for individuals, travelers, and small teams that want to operate their own VPN infrastructure instead of using a shared commercial service. Client support covers iOS, macOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and OpenWrt, while the server runs on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Deployments can use common cloud providers or an existing Ubuntu server.

Algo is free and open source, with no paid plan structure to compare. The main practical requirement is infrastructure: deployment depends on a cloud server or an existing Ubuntu server. Once deployed, the software generates WireGuard configuration files and QR codes, as well as Apple configuration profiles for IPsec. User-management scripts handle adding, removing, and managing VPN users, giving small teams a defined way to control access without adopting a hosted VPN subscription.

Its feature set also covers several useful operational details. Optional local DNS resolution can provide ad blocking, while restricted SSH tunneling supports a limited additional access pattern. Logging is configurable and includes automatic log rotation, and Ubuntu security updates can be applied automatically. These capabilities suit buyers who are comfortable operating their own server and want direct control over deployment and configuration. Teams that need advanced administration, broad integrations, or a fully managed service should choose a different VPN product.
