Akamai Managed Databases for MySQL provides fully managed MySQL clusters on Akamai Cloud, powered by Aiven. It handles deployment, configuration, updates, backups, replication, availability, and scaling for production applications, websites, e-commerce workloads, and organizations seeking managed database infrastructure. Teams can choose shared or dedicated CPU plans and configure one-, two-, or three-node deployments through Cloud Manager, the API, or CLI.
Its strongest fit is high-availability infrastructure. Three-node clusters provide replication, redundancy, and automatic failover, while automated daily backups and point-in-time recovery support restoration needs. Vertical and horizontal scaling give teams options as workloads change. Private networking through VPC, IP allowlists, and access control address network and access requirements, while configurable maintenance windows provide control over automatic updates. Metrics are exposed through the API and can be connected to Grafana for monitoring.
The plan range covers Shared 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB per node, plus G6 Dedicated 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB per node. Shared plans pair shared CPU with storage from 25 GB to 160 GB, while dedicated plans pair dedicated CPU with storage from 80 GB to 640 GB. The service is a strong choice for teams that want managed MySQL, high availability, recovery options, and scaling across Akamai Cloud. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a free plan or a simple, single-purpose database setup without cluster-oriented options.
