Akamai Cloud Longview is a Linux server monitoring and graphing service for systems hosted on Akamai Cloud, Linode, or other environments. It is aimed at administrators who need visibility into core host resources and selected web or database services without adopting a broader observability platform. The web interface presents real-time metric graphs for CPU, memory, network bandwidth, disk activity, disk space, inodes, active connections, listening services, and per-process resource use. A Linux agent can also be installed on non-Akamai systems.

The free tier is practical for smaller server estates: Longview Free supports up to ten clients, provides five-minute updates, and includes 12 hours of data history. Longview Pro adds one-minute data resolution, complete historical data, additional analytics, and additional clients. That makes the paid plan more appropriate when faster visibility, deeper trend analysis, or a larger monitored environment matters. Buyers evaluating Longview should choose the free tier for basic host oversight and the Pro tier when short update intervals and extended historical analysis are central requirements.

Longview’s strongest ecosystem fit is within Akamai Cloud and Linode. Integrations include the Linode API and Linode CLI, while optional monitoring views for Apache, NGINX, and MySQL extend coverage beyond operating-system metrics. The product remains deliberately focused: it provides detailed Linux infrastructure views, but does not cover Kubernetes or serverless workloads. Choose Longview for straightforward Linux monitoring across Akamai, Linode, and external systems. Teams seeking a single monitoring layer for container orchestration, serverless applications, or a wider application-observability scope should consider an alternative.

Akamai Cloud Longview pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Monitors CPU, memory, network, processes, disks, connections, and services
    • Free plan supports up to ten clients with five-minute updates
    • Optional Apache, NGINX, and MySQL monitoring adds service visibility
  • Where it doesn't
    • Longview Free retains only 12 hours of data history
    • One-minute resolution and complete history require Longview Pro
    • Focused on Linux servers rather than Kubernetes or serverless workloads
