AEM Edge Functions review
A strong edge runtime for Adobe customers building personalized experiences.

AEM Edge Functions runs JavaScript modules at the CDN layer for Adobe Experience Manager Sites customers. It is designed for teams building dynamic web experiences that need request routing, personalization, middleware, third-party API calls, response transformation, or server-rendered HTML assembled from multiple backends. The runtime supports web and API workloads, with JavaScript as its runtime language. It fits Adobe customers that want edge behavior connected to Adobe CDN and Experience Manager delivery services rather than a general-purpose standalone edge product.
Its strongest area is feature depth for personalized request processing. Functions can use geolocation, device, and user signals, route requests through CDN origin selectors, call third-party APIs, and compose HTML at the edge. Configuration variables, secret variables, runtime key-value storage, edge and fetch caching, and log streaming add the supporting controls needed for more involved implementations. Integrations with Adobe CDN, Cloud Manager, GitHub, and Splunk also connect the runtime to deployment and observability workflows. Teams should consider it when edge logic must coordinate personalization, content delivery, and backend responses in one Adobe-oriented setup.
Deployment can use Adobe CLI, a Cloud Manager configuration pipeline, or a GitHub repository and CI/CD workflow. AEM Edge Functions is available with AEM as a Cloud Service and Edge Delivery Services, subject to Adobe’s licensed content-request and execution limits. Adobe lists customized pricing for Experience Manager Sites, and the published product description ties execution entitlements to licensed content requests. That makes it a fit for organizations already operating within Adobe’s platform and planning around licensed usage. Teams seeking a broadly positioned edge runtime outside those Adobe services, or requiring a public per-request pricing model, should consider another option.
