Advanced IP Scanner is a free Windows desktop utility for network administrators and IT professionals managing local-area networks. It scans LAN environments to identify connected computers and their IP and MAC addresses, then adds practical access and administration tools around those results. Users can open shared network folders and FTP servers, connect through RDP or Radmin, remotely shut down or restart authorized computers, and send Wake-on-LAN requests. Portable operation without installation also suits quick use across compatible Windows systems.

Its strongest fit is straightforward device discovery with useful follow-up actions. The product supports Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, and its Radmin and RDP integrations connect discovery with remote access workflows. Results can be exported to CSV, XML, or HTML, which helps document scans or pass information to other processes. Because the application is portable, it can be run without adding a conventional installation to the computer.

The trade-off is focus. Advanced IP Scanner is designed for local network visibility and remote computer access, not as a broad diagnostic suite. It does not cover path analysis, packet-loss checks, DNS diagnostics, or command-line operation. Choose it when a free Windows tool for finding LAN devices and accessing authorized computers meets the need; choose an alternative when troubleshooting network performance, name resolution, routing paths, or scripted workflows is central.

Advanced IP Scanner pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Detects devices with IP and MAC addresses on local networks
    • Supports RDP, Radmin, shared folders, FTP, and Wake-on-LAN
    • Portable operation and CSV, XML, and HTML exports simplify deployment and reporting
  • Where it doesn't
    • Runs only on Windows desktop systems
    • Focuses on LAN discovery rather than broader diagnostic analysis
    • Does not provide verified path, packet-loss, DNS, or CLI diagnostics
