Our verdict on Acutis Firewall

Acutis Firewall is a free, open-source parental control app for Android. It uses a local VPN and DNS filtering layer to block adult content, malware, phishing, gambling, social-media, and other configured domains across apps. Parents can create custom blocklists with individual-domain and wildcard support, set daily screen-time limits, schedule blocking by time and day, and protect settings with a PIN. It is aimed at solo parents and small households that want private filtering without creating an account or sending browsing history to external services.

The Free plan has no subscription, ads, or in-app purchases, and the app is distributed as an APK and source project. Setup centers on enabling local VPN-based filtering and configuring content categories, custom domains, limits, and schedules on the Android device. Cloudflare public DNS is supported as an integration. Because filtering and stored settings remain on-device, Acutis Firewall fits families that prioritize local control and a narrow mobile deployment over a broader device-management ecosystem.

Its strongest scope is domain-based filtering rather than full activity supervision. It can restrict categories and domains across apps, but it does not provide location tools, app-level blocking, or usage reports. Families that need those controls should choose an alternative with broader monitoring features. Acutis Firewall is a focused choice for Android users who want free, private filtering with practical scheduling and settings protection, while households managing multiple platforms or seeking detailed reporting may find its coverage too narrow.
