ACTS review
A capable free option for technical churches that need attendance and administration tools.

ACTS is a free, open-source church management system for churches that want attendance tools alongside broader administrative functions. It manages member information, groups, activities, attendance, venue reservations, donations, receipts, accounting, and financial reports. Attendance can be recorded through the desktop system or Webtool, including barcode-assisted roll calls. The product is a strong fit for technically comfortable churches that want a no-license-cost foundation and can work within its platform requirements.
Its feature depth is broader than check-in alone. Attendance and activity roll-call management is paired with reports that can be exported to Excel, while membership management keeps member information in the same system. Churches can also manage venue bookings and equipment, donations and offerings, receipts, and financial reporting. The Webtool extension adds member access to personal information and attendance records, along with online venue booking and services. This makes ACTS more suitable for churches seeking an all-purpose administration system than for teams wanting a narrowly focused family check-in product.
Platform fit is the main practical consideration. ACTS is primarily Windows-based, while its web module can run on Windows or Linux servers, so churches should be prepared to support that environment. Its published release information identifies version 1.2.2 and a 2004–2015 copyright notice, which signals a mature product rather than a recently introduced service. Churches prioritizing free access, open-source software, barcode-assisted attendance, and broad administration features should consider ACTS. Churches needing verified child-specific security or family check-in capabilities should look for a more specialized alternative.
