Several distinct local privilege-escalation flaws have been reported in named Acer and ASUS programs, including NitroSense, Planet9, ASUS Business Manager, MyASUS, and Member Center. They do not affect every Acer or ASUS computer, and there is no single update that fixes them all. Check whether the affected software is installed, then follow the matching vendor advisory and update instructions.

Which Acer and ASUS software is affected?

The reports concern individual programs and components, not a shared vulnerability in Acer or ASUS hardware. The available advisories describe five different issues:

Software and vulnerability Version or scope stated Local attack prerequisite and mechanism Severity and source Remediation stated
Acer NitroSense — CVE-2026-9789 Versions before 3.01.3052 An authenticated local user can send commands through the PSAdminAgent service’s weakly protected named pipe. The service reportedly does not check caller privileges before executing file-deletion commands, allowing arbitrary file deletion with SYSTEM authority. CVSS v4 8.5, reported by the National Vulnerability Database (2026). Update to a fixed version; consult Acer’s current advisory for the applicable package and instructions.
Acer Planet9 — CVE-2026-50602 Affected version numbers are not stated in the available Acer notice. An authenticated local user could modify or replace an executable used by the background service; it could then run with SYSTEM privileges when the service or system starts. No score stated in the available notice. Acer says the update removes the affected executable files and uninstalls PLANET9DAService; Planet9 automatically upgrades to the latest version.
ASUS Business Manager — CVE-2026-8921 Affected version numbers are not stated in the available ZDI advisory. Client-side authentication in ASUS Business Manager Service can let an attacker who already has low-privileged code execution escalate to arbitrary code in the SYSTEM context. 7.8, reported by TrendAI Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) in 2026. ZDI says ASUS issued an update; check ASUS’s current advisory for applicable versions and instructions.
ASUS MyASUS — CVE-2026-7480 Affected version numbers are not stated in the available ZDI advisory. Insufficient validation of command origin in the ASUS Software Manager service can allow local privilege escalation to SYSTEM. No score stated in the available ZDI advisory. ZDI says ASUS issued an update; check ASUS’s current advisory for applicable versions and instructions.
ASUS Member Center — CVE-2026-3428 Affected version numbers are not stated in the available advisory record. A local user with low privileges can substitute a payload after download in an update-module time-of-check/time-of-use flaw. Execution with administrative privileges may occur if the user consents; the record describes high attack complexity and passive user interaction. CVSS v4 5.4, reported by the National Vulnerability Database (2026). Use ASUS’s current advisory to identify the applicable update and instructions.

The NitroSense advisory record is dated May 2026; the ZDI Business Manager and MyASUS advisories are dated July 15 and June 10, 2026, respectively, and the Member Center record is dated April 16, 2026. The Planet9 notice credits Tolga Cöhçe for reporting the issue. These records describe separate fixes and affected software; they are not evidence that all versions, devices, or bundled Acer and ASUS applications are vulnerable.

What “local privilege escalation” means for your PC

Privilege escalation is a way to gain greater access than an attacker already has. In these reports, the described route starts with a local foothold: an attacker must already be able to act on the computer, such as through an authenticated local account or low-privileged code execution. The Member Center issue also describes a user-consent condition.

That is materially different from an unauthenticated internet attacker remotely taking over any Acer or ASUS computer. The notices summarized here do not establish that kind of remote attack. Nor do they show how many computers are affected or whether the flaws have been exploited in real-world incidents.

How to check and update the relevant software

  1. Identify installed programs. On Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and search for NitroSense, Planet9, ASUS Business Manager, MyASUS, or Member Center. The program may not be present just because the computer is Acer- or ASUS-branded.
  2. Check the version where the vendor provides it. Use the program’s About or version information, or its entry in Installed apps. For NitroSense, compare the installed version with Acer’s stated affected range: versions before 3.01.3052. For the other issues, the available notices summarized here do not establish version ranges, so do not infer exposure from the product name alone.
  3. Open the matching vendor security notice. Find the Acer or ASUS advisory for the specific CVE and product. ASUS maintains a product security advisory page. Acer’s vulnerability-disclosure page describes its advisory process and advises customers to monitor the page regularly for security updates. A detailed Acer advisory follows release of a validated fix.
  4. Follow that notice’s update instructions. Install only the update the vendor identifies for the affected product and version. For Planet9, Acer says its update removes the affected executable files and uninstalls PLANET9DAService, after which Planet9 automatically upgrades.
  5. For managed fleets, record remediation by product and CVE. Track the installed product and version, applicable advisory, and update status separately for each issue; do not treat the reports as one patch event.

Exact patched versions and package instructions are not established here for every issue. Check the live vendor notice before deciding that a machine is remediated, especially where the notice does not state an affected-version range.

How to interpret the severity scores

The scores are severity ratings, not estimates of affected-device counts, confirmed compromises, or attack frequency. They also come from different reporting sources: the NitroSense and Member Center figures are attributed to the National Vulnerability Database, while the Business Manager figure is attributed to TrendAI ZDI. A higher number alone does not establish that a particular computer is more exposed; software presence, version, attacker prerequisites, and user interaction all matter.

What these reports establish—and what they do not

Together, the cases show recurring security risks in privileged services and software-update flows, but the failure mechanisms differ: weak named-pipe access controls and missing caller checks in NitroSense, replaceable service files in Planet9, client-side authentication in Business Manager, command-origin validation in MyASUS, and a payload-substitution window in Member Center.

The available notices support product-specific remediation, not a blanket claim that all Acer or ASUS computers are affected. They also do not establish a complete inventory of either company’s vulnerabilities or confirm the latest fixed version for every example. Use the relevant, current vendor advisory to resolve those details for the software installed on your machine.
