The price in a product record, channel feed, page HTML, structured data, selected variant, and checkout can diverge as updates pass between them. Trace the same offer through each point before changing the price again.
Where to look when a price is wrong
Start with one affected product and compare its price and currency at four points: the product record or channel feed, the initial landing-page HTML, the structured product data, and checkout. Confirm that each refers to the same product ID, variant, region, sale period, and quantity basis. Google’s guidance on mismatched product prices says the price reflected in the HTML must match the price uploaded to Merchant Center.
- Source record or feed: Note the submitted regular and sale prices, currency, and any sale effective dates.
- Initial page response: Check the price in the HTML delivered by the server, not only the page after scripts finish running.
- Structured data: Compare the product markup with the offer shown to the customer, including the chosen variant.
- Checkout: Check the final amount and determine whether shipping, handling, fees, or destination taxes explain the difference.
Record the values and timestamps. That makes it easier to identify the boundary where the values stop matching.
Why storefront and channel prices drift
Updates arrive at different times
A promotion may go live or end on the storefront before the channel feed has been refreshed. A missed scheduled upload, delayed crawl, or an incorrect sale start or end time can leave a stale price in one place. Check the last update time for each system and verify sale dates against the relevant time zone.

Google explains that smaller, less frequently updated sites may use an automatically generated feed based on crawled content, while larger or frequently changing catalogs can use scheduled file uploads or the Content API. Crawling does not provide control over when Google processes a change; scheduled feeds provide more control over update timing. See Google’s product data upload options.
Markup or scripts expose a different price
A page can look correct after it has fully rendered while its initial HTML or structured data still contains an older value. Google says its crawler compares the prices in returned HTML and may flag differences when JavaScript adds or changes the price after the page loads. Make the current offer available promptly and keep structured product data aligned with what the page presents.

The offer is not actually the same
A product page may load with a particular size, color, or other variant already selected. A feed price for another variant will not match that offer. Price ranges, multiple regular or sale prices, minimum purchase quantities, and currencies can also make two values seem comparable when they describe different terms. Compare the exact variant and conditions that the landing page presents.
Checkout includes additional costs
A checkout total can differ from the product-page price because of shipping, handling, fees, or destination tax treatment. Google’s guidance on inaccurate prices says additional charges must be accounted for in shipping costs or consistently included in the displayed base price. Destination VAT differences may require separate country-specific product prices.

Trace the fault before changing the price
Use the symptom to narrow the investigation. A value that is correct in the product record but wrong in the feed suggests a propagation or mapping problem. A feed that matches checkout but not the first page response points toward stale page content or rendering. A page and feed that agree while checkout differs calls for a review of quantity rules, shipping, fees, and destination taxes.
- Check whether the product edit reached the channel, and whether a scheduled upload ran successfully.
- Compare regular price, sale price, currency, and effective dates across the feed, page, and markup.
- Verify the preselected variant and any minimum-quantity condition.
- Inspect the initial HTML response as well as the fully rendered page.
- For checkout-only discrepancies, review the destination and every added charge.
If a store uses Shopify’s Google channel, Shopify advises merchants to check the channel for product errors after changing product information; edits can produce sync errors or warnings. Its Google channel sync documentation describes that platform-specific workflow.

Choose an update method that fits the catalog

No update method can compensate for incorrect business rules or a bad mapping. First find which representation is wrong, then select the update process that can keep the relevant systems aligned. Google’s product data specification provides the broader requirements for submitted product information.

As an operational practice, maintain one authoritative product record for each intended offer and define how the storefront and each channel receive changes. This is an implementation recommendation, not a Google requirement. It reduces the risk of separately edited prices drifting apart, but it does not replace checks for variant, regional, sale-window, or quantity rules.

- Keep price, sale price, currency, effective dates, variant URLs, and minimum-order logic consistent.
- Ensure crawlers can read the current offer in the initial page response and structured data.
- Choose feed schedules or API updates that reflect how often prices change.
- Audit channel errors after product edits and review affected items for shared mapping or timing causes.
- After correcting the underlying value, resubmit through the applicable channel and check the item’s current approval status.
For merchants using Shopify, its pricing guidance recommends systematic price audits and describes bulk price editing and channel-sync features. Those are Shopify-specific examples, not requirements for other platforms.
