Then verify the actual location before interpreting redirects, prices, language, or access. An IP-based country preview tests the apparent network origin; it does not set the browser’s GPS location.
What a country preview can—and cannot—tell you
A country preview is a way to check whether a site behaves differently when a request appears to come from a particular country or region. Depending on how the site is built, the differences may include a regional redirect, a geo-block, prices or currency, language, product listings, or whether an item is available.
The location signal matters. A proxy or cloud-browser geolocation feature changes the apparent network origin seen by the site. That is not the same as changing a device’s GPS coordinates or granting browser location permission. If the site uses GPS, browser location APIs, account details, cookies, or other signals, changing the IP alone may not reproduce a visitor’s experience.
Do not treat a page that loaded as proof that the selected country was used. Confirm the tool’s reported egress location, and check for a fallback. BrowserStack warns that a session may fall back without geolocation; a result from such a session is not evidence of behavior in the requested country.

Choose a method for the question you need to answer

BrowserStack’s documentation describes its Test Companion as opening the browser through BrowserStack IP Geolocation so the site sees traffic from the selected place. GeoPeeker says it renders from servers physically present in the indicated locations. These are different approaches: use the former when you need to interact with a flow, and the latter when a quick visual spot check is enough.
Run a country-preview test that you can trust
1. Define the behavior before choosing a tool
Write down the question in observable terms. For example: “Does the French exit show EUR prices?” is more testable than “Does the French site work?” Separate checks for blocking, redirection, currency, language, catalog, and availability; a pass on one does not establish the others.
2. Pick interactive browsing or a rendered screenshot
Use a cloud browser such as BrowserStack’s country workflow if you need to click, submit forms, sign in, or automate a sequence. Test Companion accepts a named country or region and can save the geolocation capability in a test configuration. BrowserStack states that the feature has IP addresses in 60+ countries and 30+ states; that coverage figure does not establish that every particular city, carrier, or visitor network is represented.
Use GeoPeeker when a simultaneous visual comparison is the goal and interaction is unnecessary. Its documented model is rendering from physical servers at the indicated locations, rather than routing through proxies. It is therefore useful for screenshots and spot checks, not for completing a multi-step checkout or browsing a site as a user.

3. Verify the location actually used
Before judging the page, inspect the tool’s location report or other available confirmation of the network exit. If the session reports a fallback, missing geolocation, or a location other than the one requested, discard it for country-specific conclusions and rerun it. A selected country in a configuration is not itself proof of the egress location.
4. Control other signals
Keep the browser language, cookies, session state, device size, and account state consistent when comparing countries, unless one of those is the variable you intend to test. A country-specific result may depend on more than the IP: a stale cookie, saved shipping address, account settings, or language preference can change what the page displays. Record the settings rather than silently changing them between runs.
5. Save enough information to reproduce the result
For each run, record the URL, timestamp, requested country or region, confirmed location or IP information available from the tool, browser/device, language, cookies or session state, and what happened. Capture the redirect chain or screenshot as appropriate. This makes a later comparison useful rather than a collection of unexplained images.
What to do when the target is private or local
BrowserStack’s country geolocation workflow is for public sites; its documentation does not support localhost and intranet targets through that path. BrowserStack Local Testing can reach localhost, staging, and private networks through a secure tunnel, but that is a separate capability: it does not make the request originate from the named country. Do not combine those two claims into an assumption that a private staging site has been tested from abroad.

For a private target, decide which property you need to test. A secure tunnel may solve reachability for a cloud browser, while a country-origin test still requires an appropriate, verified network route. If the site is not publicly reachable and the tool cannot route to the private environment from the desired exit point, the result cannot establish the experience from that country.
Using a proxy for a one-off manual check
A proxy or VPN can be a practical fallback when you only need to inspect one page yourself. Provider setup differs, and the available evidence does not establish a particular provider, proxy configuration, or country-accuracy guarantee. Use a service that explicitly offers the required country, then verify the actual exit location before relying on the page.
- Choose the country-sensitive behavior you are checking and note the exact URL.
- Connect the browser or request to an exit point advertised for that country.
- Confirm the observed egress country using the provider’s information or another trustworthy location check; do not infer it from the server selection alone.
- Open the page in a fresh or controlled session. Note browser language and clear or preserve cookies according to the test you intend to run.
- Record redirects, displayed currency or copy, and any block or error, together with the timestamp and session settings.
- If the result conflicts with the expected country behavior, repeat with controlled cookies and language and a verified exit before diagnosing the website.
A proxy is a network route, not a guarantee that the website will accept or honor the location. Some sites detect or block proxy traffic, and a browser’s language or saved session can override what an IP-only test suggests.

The page appears to be from the wrong country
First check the actual egress location and whether the session fell back. If the location is correct, inspect cookies, language, account and shipping settings, and any location permission the site requested. Repeat with those signals controlled before concluding that the site ignores the country.
The site blocks the proxy or cloud session
A block may be a response to the network route rather than the country-specific behavior you intended to test. Try a different supported location method and confirm its egress, or use an interactive cloud browser when you need to inspect the resulting flow. A blocked proxy request does not prove that ordinary visitors in the country are blocked.
The country option works for the public site but not staging
The BrowserStack geolocation workflow described for country testing requires a public URL. Local Testing is a distinct tunnel feature for localhost, staging, and private networks; it does not confer the selected country’s network origin. Treat reachability and geographic origin as separate requirements.
A screenshot looks right, but checkout or interaction is untested
A rendered image can confirm visible content at capture time, but it cannot establish that buttons, forms, checkout, or a later redirect work. Switch to an interactive cloud browser for those checks and retain the same location and session controls throughout the flow.

Regional prices or language differ between runs
Check whether the egress country was confirmed in both runs, then compare the browser language, cookies, account state, and device configuration. Save the run details; without them, a visual difference cannot reliably be attributed to geography.
Cost, performance, and reliability considerations
The choice is mainly about the evidence you need, not a numerical speed or accuracy contest. No independent published performance statistic or study is established here, so do not assume a particular method is more accurate or faster by a quantified amount.
- Interactive QA: Cloud browsers support clicking and automation, but IP geolocation may be gated by account or plan and requires a public URL in the described BrowserStack workflow.
- Visual spot checks: A multi-location renderer can make a side-by-side image check convenient, but a screenshot service is not a substitute for exercising a user journey.
- Manual proxy use: It may be convenient for an isolated check, but country accuracy, detection, and signal consistency depend on the provider and browser setup.
- Repeatability: The most useful comparison is one that records verified location and holds the other relevant inputs steady. A tool’s country label alone is insufficient evidence.

Only after confirming the location actually used and checking the specific behavior under test. A successful load alone does not demonstrate the selected country’s experience.
