Polybags Direct says businesses are weighing packaging composition, cost and compliance more closely alongside practical fit and performance. That is the supplier’s account of changing buyer priorities, not the result of a published buyer survey. Its October 3, 2026 announcement also cites forecasts for continued growth in flexible packaging, but those projections vary by publisher and market definition.
What Polybags Direct says buyers are considering
The Leicester-based UK supplier, which says it has more than 30 years in the packaging market, frames the change as a broader purchasing decision: a bag must suit the product and packing process, while buyers also consider material composition, cost and regulatory requirements. The announcement does not provide survey results, market-share data or other quantified evidence that buyer priorities have shifted; the demand claim should therefore be understood as the company’s perspective.
For a business choosing packaging, the practical starting point is to compare the item and packing process with the bag’s specifications. Relevant questions include:
- What dimensions will contain the item without excess material or an unsuitable fit?
- What film thickness and strength are appropriate for the product, handling and storage conditions?
- Is puncture or tear resistance important?
- Does the package need a resealable closure, a seal, or another specific barrier or handling feature?
- What quantity is needed, and what is the total cost at that order size?
- What material and recycled-content information is available?
- For food or other regulated uses, what applicable compliance requirements and product documentation need to be confirmed?
Polybags Direct says its range includes standard and heavy-duty bags, food-safe bags, gripseal or resealable bags, self-seal bags, freezer bags, mailing bags, garment covers, printed or branded bags, larger bags and vacuum pouches. These are supplier-reported product categories, not an independently audited inventory. Suitability—especially food-contact suitability—depends on the current specification for the particular product, which should be checked before ordering.

How to choose size and thickness
There is no universal size or thickness that suits every poly bag application. Start with the dimensions and characteristics of the item, then consider how it will be inserted, handled, stored and shipped. A bag that fits the product at rest may still be unsuitable if the item has sharp edges, needs extra room for packing, or must withstand more demanding handling.
Film thickness is only one part of performance. Compare the product’s stated strength and any relevant puncture or tear characteristics against the intended use; do not assume that a thickness figure alone establishes suitability. Polybags Direct says selected products are available as samples and that sizing and thickness tools are available to help buyers assess options before placing a larger order. The announcement does not specify sample prices, how selection works or the technical limits of individual products, so check those details with the supplier.

What the market forecasts do—and do not—show
Polybags Direct’s announcement says the global flexible plastic packaging market is forecast to grow from approximately £133.5 billion in 2026 to around £214 billion by 2034, at a 6.08% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). It attributes the forecast to Fortune Business Insights and says the sterling figures use a USD-to-GBP conversion of approximately 0.758. These are figures reported by the announcement; the underlying forecast was not independently verified here.
Other surfaced estimates use different category labels and forecast periods. They should not be combined into a single growth series or treated as directly comparable:

What the announcement reports about UK Plastic Packaging Tax
Polybags Direct’s announcement says the UK Plastic Packaging Tax applies to finished plastic packaging components containing less than 30% recycled plastic. It reports a rate of £228.82 per tonne from April 2026 and says businesses manufacturing or importing at least 10 tonnes of relevant packaging in the applicable period may have registration and reporting obligations. These are the announcement’s summaries of tax rules, not legal advice; confirm current rates, definitions, accounting periods and obligations in HMRC guidance before making a compliance decision.

The release also attributes three statistics to HMRC:
- 5,142 businesses registered for Plastic Packaging Tax as of 13 August 2026.
- 37% of plastic packaging manufactured in or imported into the UK was declared taxable during financial year 2025–26.
- Of the remaining 63%, 51% met the threshold of at least 30% recycled plastic.

What Polybags Direct says it offers buyers
Alongside its reported range of bags and pouches, Polybags Direct says it offers selected samples, sizing and thickness tools, practical packaging advice and fast UK delivery. Those are claims in the company announcement; confirm availability, delivery terms and product-level specifications directly with the supplier. A Polybags Direct representative described the intended support this way: “Businesses need packaging that performs reliably, but they also need to consider size, thickness, application, quantities, cost and increasingly the regulatory environment. Our role is to make that process straightforward by providing a wide selection of poly bags alongside practical packaging advice, samples and fast UK delivery.”
