That means you should not assume that every Pokémon can travel freely into or out of Z-A, or that compatibility depends only on a Pokémon’s species.
The reliable approach is to check the individual Pokémon in HOME. If Z-A is listed as a connected destination, HOME will show the supported transfer route. If the game is grayed out or the Pokémon has the incompatibility icon, that Pokémon cannot be deposited there through the current HOME setup.
What is confirmed about Z-A and Pokémon HOME
Pokémon Support’s current HOME documentation confirms the general transfer interface, compatibility checks, account requirements, and several reasons a transfer can fail. It does not, however, provide a Pokémon Legends: Z-A transfer table, a Z-A-specific menu path, or a complete list of Pokémon that can enter or leave the game.
So the safe 2026 answer is conditional:
- Pokémon HOME can only transfer a Pokémon to a game that HOME marks as compatible.
- Compatibility can depend on the Pokémon’s origin game, not just its species.
- The retrieved official documentation does not verify unrestricted two-way transfers between Z-A and HOME.
If you see guides claiming that every Pokémon can move in either direction, treat those claims cautiously unless they link to an official Z-A compatibility announcement.

How to check whether a Pokémon can enter Z-A
Use the HOME compatibility check before attempting a deposit. This is more reliable than judging by species, moves, or whether the Pokémon appears in a game’s Pokédex.
On Nintendo Switch
- Open Pokémon HOME.
- Choose Pokémon from the main menu.
- Select the relevant game and the user’s save data.
- Select the Pokémon you want to inspect.
- Choose Check Summary.
- Press + and select Connected Games.
- Check whether Pokémon Legends: Z-A appears among the compatible games.
When you are actually moving Pokémon, choose the game and save data, select the Pokémon, and select its destination Box. Pokémon that cannot be moved show an incompatibility icon above them. Press + when finished, then choose to save the changes. Pressing B returns you to the Boxes without completing the save operation.
On mobile
- Open the Pokémon HOME mobile app.
- Select the Pokémon.
- Scroll to Games it can travel to.
- Look for Pokémon Legends: Z-A in the list.
A grayed-out game image means that the Pokémon cannot be used in that destination game. The mobile app is useful for checking the route, but the documented game-to-HOME Box transfer workflow is performed through the Nintendo Switch version.
Why the Pokémon’s origin matters
HOME does not always treat two Pokémon of the same species as interchangeable. Pokémon Support’s Nincada example demonstrates the rule:
| Origin of Nincada | Documented destination restriction |
|---|---|
| Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl | Can return only to those games |
| Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield | Can return only to those games |
| Pokémon Bank or Pokémon GO | Can be deposited only into Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield |
This does not establish Z-A’s own restrictions, but it explains why checking the actual Pokémon is necessary. A Pokémon’s origin, move data, form, or other game-specific information can affect where HOME allows it to go.

- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
What happens to moves and stats after a transfer?
HOME can display a Pokémon differently depending on the game you are viewing it with. On Nintendo Switch, the displayed information reflects what would apply if the Pokémon were deposited into the connected game.
That can affect the information you see for:
- Moves
- Poké Ball details
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Alpha mark
- Game-specific effort levels
- Super Contest Condition
- Judge information
If a Pokémon is unavailable in the connected title, HOME may not show its detailed moves or status. These presentation changes do not mean HOME has overwritten the Pokémon’s underlying data. The display can change according to the selected game without permanently rewriting the original Pokémon.
On mobile, the information shown reflects the last game title in which the Pokémon was present. Pokémon transferred from Pokémon GO or Pokémon Bank are displayed as though they were associated with Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield.
Requirements before trying a transfer
The save must be on the same console
The game’s save data must be on the same Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console where you launch Pokémon HOME. Having the game installed on another console, or using the same Nintendo Account without moving the relevant save data, is not enough.
This is particularly important after moving from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2. If HOME no longer shows the game, transfer the relevant save data and use the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.

Use the same Nintendo Account in both HOME apps
The Nintendo Switch and mobile versions share the same HOME Boxes only when both are linked to the same Nintendo Account. Starting the mobile version under the wrong Nintendo Account is not a harmless setup mistake: Pokémon Support says it cannot later be linked to the intended account.
To check the account in the mobile app, open Options → Account.

Check mobile device compatibility
Pokémon HOME’s current official mobile support is iOS 16 and later. The app can still run on iOS 15, but that version is no longer supported; Pokémon HOME is unusable on iOS 14. Check your device’s iOS version if the mobile app is unavailable or not working as expected.
Nintendo Switch Online is not required
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for the general Pokémon HOME connection and transfer process. HOME’s own plan requirements are separate from Nintendo Switch Online.
Moving HOME between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
Moving a user account from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 carries that user’s existing Pokémon HOME Premium Plan to the new console. If multiple users are transferred, all users and their save data are transferred together.

Nintendo’s local-communication transfer process does not reset the original Nintendo Switch. This differs from the older server-upload transfer method, which reset the original console. Before moving Pokémon, confirm which migration method you are using and verify that the relevant save data is available on the console where HOME will run.

| What you see | Likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Z-A is grayed out in “Games it can travel to” | The Pokémon is not compatible with that destination | Check another Pokémon and its origin game; do not force the transfer |
| An incompatibility icon appears above the Pokémon on Switch | HOME blocks that Pokémon from the selected game | Use Check Summary → + → Connected Games |
| The game is missing from HOME | Its save data is not on the console where HOME is running, often after a console move | Transfer the save data and use the same Nintendo Account |
| Mobile and Switch show different Boxes | The apps are linked to different Nintendo Accounts | Check Options → Account and correct the account before using HOME |
| Moves or information look different | HOME is displaying game-specific data for the selected title | Do not assume the original Pokémon data was overwritten |
Do not use altered Pokémon
Unauthorized or altered data can lead to restrictions on mobile trading, suspension of both HOME versions, and restrictions on online play in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Restrictions may be temporary or indefinite, and Pokémon Support says refunds are not provided. If a supposed Z-A transfer requires injected, modified, or otherwise unauthorized data, it is not a safe workaround for a compatibility block.
Is there a command or shortcut for HOME transfers?
No. Pokémon HOME does not provide command-line syntax or a text command for moving Pokémon. Transfers are completed through the Nintendo Switch or mobile-app menus. Any tool claiming to bypass HOME’s compatibility checks is outside the documented transfer process and may put the account or Pokémon at risk.
Practical checklist
- Update HOME and the relevant game before checking.
- Confirm that the game save is on the same console as the HOME app.
- Confirm that the Switch and mobile apps use the same Nintendo Account.
- Check the individual Pokémon through Connected Games or Games it can travel to.
- Make a note of the Pokémon’s origin game before assuming another Pokémon of the same species will work.
- Save changes only after reviewing the destination Box.
- If Z-A is not listed or is grayed out, wait for an official compatibility update rather than using an unofficial workaround.
FAQ
Can every Pokémon move between Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon HOME?
That is not verified by the current official HOME documentation. Pokémon Support has not published a Z-A-specific transfer table in the material covered here. Check each Pokémon’s compatible games in HOME instead of assuming unrestricted two-way transfers.
How do I check if a Pokémon can go to Z-A?
On Switch, select the Pokémon, choose Check Summary, press +, and open Connected Games. On mobile, select the Pokémon and scroll to Games it can travel to. A grayed-out Z-A image or the Switch incompatibility icon means the transfer is blocked.

Does Pokémon HOME delete or permanently change moves and stats?
No. HOME can display moves, status, Poké Ball information, marks, effort levels, and other details differently depending on the connected game, but Pokémon Support says these display changes do not overwrite the Pokémon’s underlying data.
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online to transfer Pokémon through HOME?
No. Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for the general Pokémon HOME connection and transfer process.
Why does Pokémon HOME not see my game after moving to Nintendo Switch 2?
The relevant save data may not be on the console where HOME is running. Transfer the save data and make sure you are using the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.
Can I use a command or external tool to bypass a blocked HOME transfer?
No documented command exists for HOME transfers. Altered or unauthorized Pokémon data can result in trading restrictions, HOME suspension, or online-play restrictions, so it is not a safe solution.

The Bottom Line
For Pokémon Legends: Z-A, use Pokémon HOME’s per-Pokémon compatibility check as the source of truth. The general HOME menus and account rules are documented, but the current official material does not verify unrestricted Z-A transfers or publish a complete Z-A compatibility list. If HOME lists Z-A as compatible, move the Pokémon through the normal Switch Boxes workflow; if it is grayed out or marked incompatible, the transfer is not currently allowed.
