You can run a podcast library as a continuous YouTube Live stream by sending episodes through a software or hardware encoder connected to YouTube Live Control Room. Before you start, verify that your channel can go live and clear the rights to every episode and included asset; then choose local or hosted playback and plan for interruptions and recording backups.
What you need to know first
YouTube receives a feed from an encoder. The encoder may be software on a computer or standalone hardware; a dedicated streaming appliance is not required. YouTube’s setup guidance explains how to connect an encoder, but does not provide a podcast-specific recipe for automating a playlist around the clock.
Plan separately for episode rotation, disconnections, failed files, and removing content. These details depend on your chosen playback system and should be tested before relying on the stream.
Check live access and content rights
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube says your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable and test access ahead of time. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Audit every item in the rotation. Check rights for the recordings, music, inserted ads, clips, guest performances, artwork, and other material. Permission to distribute an episode through a podcast feed or in a particular territory does not automatically establish rights for a worldwide YouTube live stream. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights on the content provider. YouTube Terms of Service.
- Check Content ID arrangements. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the stream image, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Even licensed content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Contact rights holders before relying on licensed material in a continuous stream. YouTube Help: Live stream copyright.
Choose how to keep the stream running
| Approach | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Local software encoder | Gives you control over playback and presentation, but depends on the computer, power, and internet connection remaining available. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | An optional physical encoder. YouTube supports standalone hardware encoders, but you do not need to buy one if software meets your needs. |
| Hosted cloud service | Can avoid leaving a local computer running. Verify the provider’s current capabilities, terms, and recovery behavior before relying on it for continuous operation. |
A secondary guide identifies StreamNeo as a cloud-streaming option. The available research did not verify its current formats, limits, pricing, integrations, uptime, or partner-program status, so check those details directly before choosing it.

#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required

Prepare the podcast playback
Your playback source needs to provide an audio and visual feed. Audio-led episodes can be paired with an image, waveform, captions, or other visual layer, but make sure you have rights to that material too. The YouTube setup guidance reviewed does not prescribe a single podcast visual format or universal bitrate.
Choose an encoder or hosting service that can play your files in the desired order, and test the complete output. Confirm the audio is clear, the visual is appropriate, the episodes advance as expected, and you know what happens if playback ends or a file fails.

Set up the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and select Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
- In your encoder, select YouTube if available. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields.
- Keep the stream key private. Reset it if it is exposed or compromised. YouTube Help: Stream settings.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming feed and preview in Live Control Room.
- Check that the preview and audio are correct, then select Go live.
- Monitor the broadcast and test how you will restart or recover it if the feed disconnects. Do not assume automatic reconnection or episode rotation works without verifying it with your chosen setup.
Plan for replays and continuity
A continuous live page and a reliable replay archive are separate goals. According to YouTube Help, streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If viewers need replays, consider ending and restarting sessions before that limit, and keep an independent local recording as a backup. Verify the archive after each session. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.
Set an operating plan for a dropped connection, an ended playlist, a failed file, and any episode that needs to be removed. Test your plan before leaving the stream unattended, and periodically check the live feed and any expected recording.

Copyright and monetization are separate checks
Having permission to rebroadcast episodes does not guarantee that a channel or stream qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization rules apply to live streams and assess whether content is original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. Its reused-content policy is separate from copyright. Review the current rules and assess your channel as a whole before assuming a rights-cleared episode loop can earn revenue. YouTube channel monetization policies.
YouTube’s policy page records a July 15, 2025 clarification that renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content”; it said the reused-content policy did not change. Policy and review outcomes can change, so check the current guidance when publishing.

FAQ
Can I use software instead of buying a hardware encoder?
Yes. YouTube supports software encoders as well as standalone hardware encoders. A hardware device is optional.
Will YouTube automatically save a 24/7 stream?
Do not count on it. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a replay, plan shorter sessions and keep an independent recording.

Can licensed music still interrupt my live stream?
Yes. A license does not necessarily prevent a Content ID interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. Confirm the arrangement with the rights holder before streaming.
Does permission to rebroadcast mean the stream can be monetized?
No. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate. YouTube’s rules also consider whether content is original and authentic, as well as reused content and other channel-level factors.
Do I need to keep my computer on?
If you use a local encoder, the computer and its connection need to remain available while it is sending the feed. A hosted service may avoid that local dependency, but verify its current capabilities and recovery behavior before relying on it.
