On paper, the POCO X8 Pro has the newer stated chipset, faster storage specification and higher advertised wired-charging rate. The OnePlus Nord 5 gives you a larger 144 Hz display and Snapdragon-based gaming features. Neither phone is established as the faster sustained-gaming choice: the available benchmark and frame-rate claims come from the manufacturers, not a controlled head-to-head test. Choose based on the games you play, screen size, local configuration and price—not a chipset name alone.
Performance: what the specifications do—and do not—show
The POCO X8 Pro pairs a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra with LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and a 5300 mm² IceLoop cooling system, according to POCO’s specifications. POCO’s UFS 4.1 description includes a firmware qualification. These specifications make the X8 Pro the stronger on-paper hardware package, but they do not establish that it opens apps or loads games faster in everyday use.
The OnePlus Nord 5 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. OnePlus advertises support for up to 144 FPS in selected games and describes its test settings on the Nord 5 product page. Some named-game claims, including BGMI and Free Fire, use adaptive frame boosting or interpolation. That is not the same as rendering every frame natively, and it does not prove the Nord 5 outperforms the POCO in a matched test.

POCO cautions that results vary with test conditions. This is a manufacturer-reported result for one phone, not a direct comparison with the Nord 5.

There is no cited controlled test running both phones through the same game, settings and temperature conditions. A larger vapor chamber or a high advertised frame rate alone cannot settle which device holds performance better over a long session. Game support, graphics settings, software, heat and regional configuration all affect the experience.
Screen size and refresh rate: Nord 5 for a bigger canvas
The Nord 5’s 6.83-inch display is larger and has a higher refresh-rate ceiling than the POCO X8 Pro’s 6.59-inch, 1.5K AMOLED panel, which supports up to 120 Hz. The Nord 5 is listed at 144 Hz, according to OnePlus and 91mobiles’ comparison. That makes the Nord a natural fit if you prefer more screen area for games or video and play titles that support higher refresh rates.

A 144 Hz panel does not mean every game runs at 144 frames per second; game support and settings matter. POCO advertises peak brightness of 3500 nits over 25% of the screen area. That is a manufacturer figure tied to a specified area, not a directly comparable measure against brightness readings taken under different conditions.

Battery and charging: compare the stated capacities and conditions
POCO lists a 6500 mAh typical-capacity battery and 100 W HyperCharge; OnePlus lists a 6800 mAh battery and 80 W charging. The Nord has the larger stated capacity, while POCO advertises the higher charging rate. Capacity by itself does not predict which phone lasts longer, and the figures do not substitute for a shared battery test.

POCO says the X8 Pro reached a full charge in 48 minutes in its lab using the in-box 100 W charger, Top speed mode and screen off at about 25°C. That result is specific to POCO’s test conditions; the product page advises checking adapter availability with the local seller. OnePlus advertises up to 9.5 hours of BGMI play for the Nord 5 as a OnePlus Test Lab claim, with actual results varying by environment and use. Neither manufacturer figure is a like-for-like battery comparison.

91mobiles reports the X8 Pro with Android 16-based HyperOS 3.0 and four major OS upgrades plus six years of security updates. The Nord 5 launched with Android 15-based OxygenOS 15; OnePlus’s current product page states four Android versions and six years of security updates. Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the POCO X8 Pro if you want the newer stated chipset platform, LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage specification and higher advertised wired-charging rate. Treat that as a specification-led preference, not proof of a real-world speed win.
- Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if you value a larger screen, a higher refresh-rate ceiling or OnePlus’s selected-game frame-rate features. Remember that some advertised 144 FPS output uses interpolation and that game support varies.
- Compare local offers before deciding because price, storage configuration, charger in the box, seller, warranty and availability may differ by market. The evidence here does not establish a universal best-value winner.
For sustained gaming performance specifically, neither phone has a substantiated head-to-head advantage. Independent Nord 5 reviews offer observations about that phone alone; for example, Tom’s Guide reported smooth play in Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus, but that is not a comparison with the X8 Pro.
