If Plex recommendations are missing or feel irrelevant on Android TV, first identify whether the row comes from one of your personal server libraries or from Plex Discover. Each has different controls: pinned sources, Favorite Libraries, and server-side row visibility affect personal-library rows, while Discover has separate account and service-availability settings. Plex documents controls for choosing and arranging sources and rows, but not a general setting to tune recommendation relevance.
First identify which recommendations are affected
Plex’s big-screen Home screen can show content from sources you can access. A row from your own server library is controlled differently from a row supplied by Discover. Check the row’s name and content, then identify whether the issue is a missing library row, an unwanted Home order, or Discover titles or availability. - Personal-library row: Check pinned sources, Favorite Libraries, and the server’s recommendation settings.
- Discover row: Check whether Discover is available and pinned, and review the account’s online media source and streaming-service settings.
Fix missing or misordered personal-library rows
1. Pin and arrange the source in the Android TV sidebar
From Plex’s sidebar, choose Edit to pin, unpin, or reorder sources. Pinned sources are the main factor Plex identifies for what appears on Home; the order of pinned sources affects the order of their Home rows. Unpinned sources remain available under More. See Plex’s big-screen app customization instructions.
These customizations apply to that app installation. Plex says they are lost if you delete and reinstall the app, so avoid reinstalling as a first troubleshooting step.

2. Check Favorite Libraries
Favorite Libraries affect which personal-library rows populate Home and their order. If no libraries are selected as favorites, accessible libraries can still appear in the library list, but their content will not appear in Home recommendation rows. Favorites sync across modern Plex apps for the account, including TV apps. Review Plex’s Favorite Libraries guide.
3. Ask the server owner to check recommendation visibility
If the library is pinned and favorited but its row is still absent, the server owner can check the library’s settings in Plex Web: Settings > Server > Manage > Libraries > Manage Recommendations. Plex provides separate controls for the library’s Recommended tab, the owner’s Home, and Shared Users’ Home. A Home row appears only when the relevant user has pinned that library, and a row with no items will not appear. The library’s Recommended tab can still be opened separately from Home. 4. Refresh after server-side changes
Plex notes that player apps may cache recommendation information, so a server-side change might not show immediately. Refresh the app, or quit and restart it, after the owner changes row settings.
5. Confirm the selected tab
A source can open to a remembered tab such as Recommended, Library, or Collections. On Android TV, check the source’s Remember selected tab setting and confirm you are viewing the intended tab. Plex documents this under Android TV settings.

Check Discover separately
Discover is a distinct source, not another personal-library row. On Android TV, open or focus Discover in the big-screen app’s More area, then use its source menu to choose Pin if you want it on Home. Plex lists Android TV as a supported Discover platform. The account owner can manage Discover under Account > Online Media Sources; Android TV settings also let you manage the streaming services used to show availability in Discover. Personal server content can appear in Discover only when the library uses the Plex Movie or Plex TV Series metadata agent. Discover settings also distinguish several controls: Discover sources, More Ways to Watch search results, streaming-service availability on detail pages, and friends’ activities. Managed-user availability can be controlled for some settings, so check the specific account or user whose Discover view is affected.

What Plex lets you change—and what it does not document
Plex’s documented controls let you choose sources, favorite libraries, show or hide library rows, change their order, configure Discover availability, and add collection-based custom rows. The cited documentation does not establish a general Android TV preference that tunes the recommendation algorithm’s relevance. If a row exists but its titles seem wrong, identify whether it is a personal-library row or Discover first; do not assume that clearing a cache or changing an undocumented setting will retrain recommendations.
Optional collection rows
Plex documents making a collection visible as a custom row, including collections based on smart collections. Its Manage Recommendations article lists Plex Media Server v1.22.3 or newer, Plex Web v4.56.3 or newer, and an active Plex Pass on the server admin account as requirements for this collection-row feature. Those requirements are specific to collection rows; Plex Pass is not documented as a requirement for ordinary recommendation rows.
