If a Playwright screenshot loses the right side of a page, check the CSS viewport width against the rendered document width first. fullPage: true captures the page’s full scrollable height; it does not widen the browser viewport or force off-screen content to render. Compare window.innerWidth with document.documentElement.scrollWidth, then set the viewport or address the overflowing layout according to what the image needs to show.
Why does my Playwright screenshot cut off the right side?
A page screenshot normally captures the current viewport. If the page’s layout or a particular element is wider than that viewport, content may extend beyond the captured area. Playwright’s fullPage: true option expands capture vertically to include the full scrollable page; it is not a horizontal-width setting. The Playwright screenshot API documents the full-page option and other screenshot parameters.
The exact cause depends on your page, viewport configuration, browser, and screenshot options. Start by measuring the viewport and document rather than assuming that full-page capture, image scaling, or a larger clip will fix the layout.

How do I diagnose the width mismatch?
Run this after the page has loaded and rendered. It reports the viewport width and the document and body scroll widths in CSS pixels:

console.log(dimensions);If documentWidth is greater than innerWidth, some content extends beyond the viewport. That comparison is a diagnostic, not a Playwright guarantee about the cause. Inspect the page to find the element responsible and decide whether the width is intentional, such as a wide table, or the result of a layout rule.
If the widths match but the saved image still omits content, check whether the screenshot uses a clip rectangle, whether the page layout changes during capture, and whether the issue is limited to full-page screenshots or one browser engine.
Choose the capture behavior that matches the image you need

See the Playwright documentation for clip geometry and screenshot scale. A wider raster image from device-pixel scaling is not a substitute for a wider CSS viewport.

Set the viewport before capturing
Choose a CSS viewport width that suits the layout you intend to capture, configure it before navigation or before the page lays itself out, and then inspect the rendered dimensions. If the target is a responsive desktop design, use the width at which that design is meant to appear—not merely a larger output scale.
Once the page is in the desired layout, use the screenshot mode that matches your goal. For example, to capture the full vertical page at CSS-pixel scale:

Check clip boundaries and full-page-only differences
When using clip
A clip rectangle is defined by x, y, width, and height. Check that x + width reaches the rightmost content you intend to preserve. A clip only selects a rectangle from the rendered page; it does not expand the viewport or reveal content that never rendered there.
When only full-page screenshots look wrong
Compare the page’s layout in a normal viewport screenshot with its full-page output. A historical Chromium issue reported behavior involving viewport-relative vh and vw units during full-page screenshots, but it does not establish a current, universal defect. If the difference is reproducible, inspect CSS that depends on viewport dimensions and test with the Playwright version and browser installed in your project.
When it happens in only one browser engine
Reproduce the case with the same page, Playwright version, and browser engine before concluding that the engine is responsible. A historical WebKit issue report described a full-page snapshot failure on some websites; it is not proof of a current general problem. A separate historical Chromium issue report concerned vh and vw behavior in full-page screenshots.

Common fixes that do not solve a width problem
- Adding
fullPage: true: useful for full scrollable height, not for widening the viewport. - Increasing device-pixel scale: changes raster resolution, not the CSS layout viewport.
- Making the clip wider: changes the selected rectangle, but does not make off-viewport content render.
- Hiding horizontal overflow immediately: can conceal the symptom while also removing content the screenshot is supposed to show. Find the overflowing element before changing overflow behavior.

Does fullPage: true include content on the right?
It captures the full scrollable height, not a wider viewport. Measure the document and viewport widths to diagnose horizontal overflow.
Why is a full-page screenshot still too narrow?
Full-page capture is a vertical extent option. Set the intended CSS viewport width and inspect the rendered layout; output scaling and clipping do not widen that layout.
