PlayStation Plus Monthly Games: Claiming and Expiration Explained

Claim each PlayStation Plus monthly game during its offer period to add it to your library. You can play claimed monthly games only while your account has an active PlayStation Plus membership; turning off auto-renewal does not end access before your paid period expires.

How to claim PlayStation Plus monthly games

PlayStation adds new monthly games each calendar month. Claim a game while it is offered: adding it to your library records your eligibility, but it does not make the game yours to play without an active membership. The offer window changes monthly, so a game may no longer be claimable after that window closes. PlayStation Support’s guide to accessing PlayStation Plus games has the current instructions.

On PS5

From the Games home screen, select PlayStation Plus.
Open Benefits, then choose Monthly Games.
Select the game and choose Download.

On PS4

Open PlayStation Plus from the function screen.
Choose Monthly Games.
Select the game and choose Add to Library. Download it when ready.

You can also start downloads remotely using a web browser or the PlayStation App.

Can you keep playing monthly games after canceling?

Monthly games are included with PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium. PlayStation says subscribers can add monthly games to their library and play them at any time while their membership is active. Adding a game to your library preserves access eligibility under the subscription; it does not confer ownership independent of PlayStation Plus. If you turn off auto-renewal, your benefits continue through the end of the subscription payment period you have already paid for. The timeline is:

Cancel future renewal: PlayStation will not renew the subscription automatically, but your current benefits remain available.
Paid period ends: PlayStation Plus benefits end, including access to claimed monthly games, online storage, and online multiplayer.

So, no: canceling does not cut off monthly-game access immediately. But once the paid period ends, claimed games become unavailable until you resume membership. The cited cancellation guidance is UK-specific; check the terms for your account’s region if you need local details.

Monthly games and the Game Catalog are different benefits

Monthly games are offered to claim each month and require an active membership to play. The Game Catalog is a separate library benefit included with Extra and Premium; Premium also includes the Classics Catalog and game trials. Catalog titles can leave the service on announced dates, so an active membership alone does not guarantee continued access to a catalog game. Check PlayStation’s games FAQ for its catalog and DLC rules.

If you purchased downloadable content or add-ons for a Game Catalog title, they may also become unavailable if your membership expires or the base game leaves the service. PlayStation says you can use that purchased content again if you resume the service or buy the base game.

Can a PlayStation Plus voucher restore access?

A PlayStation Plus membership voucher can provide membership time, but the amount of time you receive depends on your account status and tier. PlayStation’s US plan FAQ says a voucher used with no active membership provides Essential for the duration printed on it. For an existing subscriber, the voucher’s value converts into time on the current tier; PlayStation’s examples show that a voucher of the same nominal length can provide less time on a higher tier. Check the voucher terms and your account’s membership status before relying on a conversion example, especially if your account is outside the US. See PlayStation’s US plan FAQ.
