Pixel Watch’s Double pinch and Wrist turn let you handle certain on-screen actions with one hand, such as answering a call or pausing music. Google’s current support page lists the gestures for Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 running Wear OS 6.1 or later, with watch apps updated. What they can do depends on the screen or app you’re using.
What the two gestures do
Double pinch
Tap your index finger and thumb together twice. When the gesture is available, an on-screen hint can show you where to use it.
Wrist turn
Quickly turn your wrist away from you and then back. Google documents both gestures as controls for supported watch actions; they are not general replacements for every touchscreen control.

Which Pixel Watch models support hand gestures?
Google’s current Pixel Watch Help page lists Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Watch 5 with Wear OS 6.1 or later. Google also advises updating watch apps. This current requirement is more useful than older launch announcements, which described availability at the time of release.

Google introduced Double pinch and Wrist turn as Pixel Watch 4 capabilities in its December 9, 2025 announcement. In its March 2026 Pixel Drop, Google said one-handed gestures were expanding to Pixel Watch 3. Its current Help page also includes Pixel Watch 5. Eligibility therefore depends on both the watch model and software version, not simply on owning any Pixel Watch.
What can you do with the gestures?
Actions vary by screen and app. Google’s examples include:

- Scroll through alerting notifications or open the notification tray.
- Send the first available Smart Reply.
- Snooze a ringing alarm, stop a ringing timer, or start and stop an ongoing timer or stopwatch.
- Play or pause music.
- Answer a phone call.
- In the Camera app, take a photo or start or stop video. For the documented Camera Remote workflow, the watch acts as a viewfinder for a paired Pixel phone; double pinch starts a countdown for the phone to take the photo, rather than the watch capturing it independently. - Open At a Glance when it appears at the bottom of the watch face, toggle between Maps views, or scroll workout metrics, a morning brief, a workout summary, or Wallet cards.
- Start your most recent workout.
These are examples, not a promise that every action appears in every app or situation. Look for the watch’s on-screen hint or consult the hand-gesture tutorial to see what applies in context.

Google says hand gestures are on by default. You can change the controls or repeat the interactive tutorial from the watch or phone app:

- On your phone: Open the Pixel Watch app, then go to Settings > Gestures > Hand gestures. From there, toggle Double pinch or Wrist turn.
- On your watch: Swipe down, open Settings > Gestures > Hand gestures, and adjust the gestures.
- To repeat the tutorial: On the watch, go to Settings > Gestures > Hand gestures > Tutorial. Google also lists Settings > General > Pixel Tips > Hand gestures as a route to the lesson.
- To change hint frequency: In the hand-gesture settings, choose Always, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Once.
When are hand gestures useful?
They are worth trying when your other hand is occupied or reaching for the screen is inconvenient—for example, while a call is coming in or music is playing. Whether a finger pinch or wrist turn feels easier is personal, and the useful action depends on what is currently on screen. Google’s documentation does not establish that gestures are faster or more reliable than touch controls, so treat them as an additional input option rather than a guaranteed upgrade.
Google’s December 2025 announcement also discussed an on-device Gemma-based Smart Reply model for Pixel Watch 3 and newer, describing it as “twice as fast” and “nearly three times more efficient in terms of memory usage” than the previous generation. Those are Google’s claims about the Smart Reply model, not about gesture speed, accuracy, or battery impact.
