Google documents HiLight on the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. It is a built-in setting—not a feature file you can download to add HiLight to an older Pixel. Google’s instructions also do not confirm that HiLight preferences transfer in a backup, and Android rollback can erase local data.
Which Pixel phones support HiLight?
Google lists the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold as supporting HiLight. Its instructions do not document an upgrade package for older Pixel phones, so do not assume an app or file update can add the feature to another model. Google Pixel Phone Help describes HiLight as a system feature configured in Settings.
The feature provides lighting cues while you speak with Gemini and for incoming calls from favorite contacts when the phone is face down. Google says favorite-contact calls work with Phone by Google and WhatsApp. The support instructions present the same uses for all three supported models; they do not describe different HiLight capabilities by model.
Do I need to download a supported file?
No file type or importable HiLight feature file is specified in Google’s instructions. The setup uses the phone’s system settings, Contacts, Gemini, and supported call apps. “Supported files” is therefore not the compatibility question Google documents: the listed Pixel model and the relevant settings are what matter.

How to enable and customize HiLight
- On a supported phone, open Settings > System > HiLight, enable HiLight, then choose Speaking with Gemini, Calls from favorites, or both.
- For calls, update the Contacts app and mark the people whose calls should trigger HiLight as favorites. Calls use Phone by Google or WhatsApp.
- To choose a favorite’s color, open that person in Contacts, select HiLight under Contact Settings, choose a color, preview it if you want, and tap Done.
Google Pixel Phone Help says, “If you enable flash notifications, HiLight won’t display for incoming calls.” If call lighting is missing, check whether flash notifications are enabled.
HiLight glows by default in modes such as Flip to Shhh, Bedtime, and Do Not Disturb. In those modes, setting the relevant Calls option to None also turns off call ring or vibration notifications. That setting can therefore silence more than HiLight.

Will HiLight settings transfer with a backup?
Google’s Pixel backup instructions direct users to Settings > Google services > Backup, then Backup details, to review what data and apps are included. During setup, users can restore all or selected categories; Pixel 9 and later can also restore after initial setup.
Google’s backup guidance does not specifically identify HiLight switches or per-contact HiLight colors as backed-up items. Check the categories shown on your own phone, and do not count on these preferences transferring unless they are included in the backup details. The cited guidance does not establish a HiLight-specific migration method.

Can you roll back Android without losing data?
Android rollback is separate from turning HiLight off. If you are enrolled in the Android Beta Program, opting out and applying the latest stable public update ordinarily wipes locally stored device data. Google describes a limited no-wipe window after installing the stable release that corresponds to the beta version: it lasts only until you install a subsequent beta update. Google’s Android Beta Program instructions warn that you cannot generally return to stable Android without first wiping local data.
Manually flashing a factory image is not a data-preserving shortcut. Android Developers says that flashing a factory image resets the device, and that moving between beta and production builds requires resetting user data. See the Android factory images instructions before proceeding.

- Before opting out or flashing, make a backup and verify what it contains.
- Expect locally stored data to be erased unless you meet Google’s limited matching-stable-release exception.
- The cited Android guidance describes OS rollback, not a separate HiLight-only rollback procedure.
Does buying another Pixel make sense just for HiLight?
HiLight is documented for the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Google’s August 13, 2026 announcement listed launch prices of $1,099, $1,299, and $1,899 respectively, with announced retail availability on August 20, 2026. Those are announcement figures, not confirmation of current pricing or stock; check Google’s Google Store for availability. The official HiLight instructions do not indicate that one of these models has more HiLight functions than the others.
