Neither Private Internet Access (PIA) nor NordVPN is the right choice for everyone. PIA stands out when value and covering many simultaneous devices matter most; NordVPN is the stronger starting point if you prioritize speed, network reach, and a broader set of features. The best fit still depends on your own streaming services, location, and current checkout terms.
How the offers compare—and what the advertised prices leave out
TechRadar’s October 2026 deal guide listed these promotional monthly equivalents. They are snapshots of offers, not standard monthly billing prices or guaranteed checkout totals.
| Service | Promotional monthly equivalent | Upfront total, term, and renewal price |
|---|---|---|
| Private Internet Access | $2.19 per month equivalent in TechRadar’s October 2026 deal coverage | Not stated in that deal report; confirm the term, amount billed today, and renewal price at checkout. TechRadar deal guide |
| NordVPN | $3.49 per month equivalent in TechRadar’s October 2026 deal coverage | Not stated in that deal report; confirm the term, amount billed today, and renewal price at checkout. TechRadar deal guide |
Compare the amount billed now and the post-introductory renewal amount, not just the monthly equivalent. The deal guide does not establish either service’s current checkout price or renewal total. TechRadar’s PIA review reported a 30-day money-back guarantee in its review context, but check the current terms and exclusions before relying on that window. TechRadar’s PIA review
How many devices can you connect at once?
Security.org and Gizmodo describe PIA as allowing unlimited simultaneous connections. Security.org’s comparison describes NordVPN as allowing 10 devices. These are the limits reported in those comparisons; confirm the current plan terms before subscribing, particularly if several people share the account. Security.org comparison Gizmodo comparison

Which service is faster, and how much should you trust the test figures?
Security.org’s comparison, dated August 6, 2026, gives NordVPN the overall edge for speed and network size. In that publisher’s download-speed tests, PIA reduced download speed by 4.84%, while NordVPN reduced it by 5.78%. Those results are specific to Security.org’s test context, not a prediction for your connection. The percentages alone do not show that PIA will feel faster for you: performance can change with location, protocol, device, and baseline connection, and the publisher’s overall assessment also considers its broader comparison. Gizmodo’s 2026 head-to-head names NordVPN its overall winner under its own category scoring. Treat that as Gizmodo’s conclusion, not a universal ranking or a guarantee of performance from your location. Gizmodo’s comparison

What can the available privacy evidence establish?
Reviews discuss independent audits or verification for both providers: TechRadar’s PIA review refers to independent verification, and Security.org’s comparison discusses independent audits for NordVPN. Those summaries do not establish that an audit proves either service can never log data or guarantees anonymity. They also do not provide enough detail here to compare the auditors, dates, scope, or components covered. Read the underlying reports and their stated scope if those specifics are central to your decision. TechRadar’s PIA review Security.org comparison

The available head-to-head coverage does not establish a consistent winner across specific streaming platforms, countries, and test dates. A broad speed result or overall category score cannot tell you whether a particular service will reliably access the catalog you want. If streaming is decisive, check current results for the platform and region you use, and verify that any cited test identifies its location, date, and method.

Which extras could change your choice?
Port forwarding
Tom’s Guide says NordVPN does not support port forwarding. That may rule it out for a networking setup that specifically requires the feature; check current product documentation for your use case. The cited review does not establish whether PIA’s current offering meets your particular requirements. Tom’s Guide’s NordVPN review
Router and streaming-device setup
PIA’s support documentation describes OpenVPN router configuration for DD-WRT, OpenWRT, AsusWRT, pfSense, and FreshTomato firmware. It also describes installing the PIA app on Amazon Fire Stick, Android TV Box, and Apple TV. Those are PIA setup options, not evidence that every device or firmware version is compatible. Check your exact model and firmware against PIA’s instructions before planning a network-wide setup. PIA router and streaming-device support

PIA’s router-compatibility article, dated October 5, 2026, says AES hardware acceleration can help a router handle encryption more efficiently. It also cautions that mesh systems and modem-router combinations are generally unsupported and that router VPN speeds may be lower than speeds on phones or computers. Router performance and compatibility depend on the hardware and firmware; the PIA guidance does not establish compatibility with NordVPN. PIA router compatibility guidance
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
Which VPN should you choose?
- Choose PIA as the better fit to investigate if your priorities are a lower promotional price or connecting many devices at once. Check the live renewal terms and connection policy for the plan you intend to buy.
- Choose NordVPN as the better fit to investigate if speed, network reach, and a broader feature set matter more than the lowest advertised deal. Its overall advantage in the cited comparisons reflects their test methods and scoring, not a promise about your own connection.
- Check the specific requirement first if you need port forwarding, access to a particular streaming catalog, or router-wide coverage. General comparison scores do not settle those use cases; use current, feature-specific documentation or tests.
