There is no confirmed built-in feature or standalone product called “PHP Link Directory Screenshot Processor” in the available phpLD documentation. If you want preview images beside directory listings, treat screenshot generation as a separate integration and first confirm which phpLD release you run. PHPLD Next documents a browser installer but does not document automatic screenshot generation; the older Version 5 manual describes a different, legacy installation process.
First identify your phpLD version and what “screenshot processor” means
The phrase does not identify a verified native phpLD component. It could refer to a private plugin, a feature in a particular package, or a custom workflow for generating listing thumbnails. Do not follow generic setup instructions as if they were official phpLD steps. Check the name and version shown in your installed package or account, and compare them with the relevant product documentation.
- PHPLD Next is the current rebuild described by the official feature page. Its listed capabilities include categories, listings, submissions, custom fields, media, spam protection, language packs and administration tools; the page does not document built-in automatic website thumbnails.
- The PHP Link Directory Version 5 manual is for a legacy release. Its installation instructions should not be assumed to apply to PHPLD Next or another package.
- The official support page discusses installation help, early tester feedback, upgrade issues and questions about the new release, but does not identify a screenshot processor.
Release details can change. Check the current product page, package contents and support information for the exact release you have before changing a live directory.
Install phpLD using the instructions for your release
PHPLD Next
The official PHPLD Next feature page describes a browser-based installation: upload the ZIP, enter database details, create an administrator account, choose basic site settings and complete setup. Follow the instructions shipped with the exact package; do not substitute Version 5 paths or permissions unless your package explicitly calls for them.

Legacy Version 5
The Version 5 manual describes uploading and unpacking the application, renaming /include/config.php.new to /include/config.php, setting permissions on the configuration and temporary directories, and preparing a database. Its browser installer runs a compatibility check, accepts database settings, populates the database and creates the administrator account. It then directs the administrator to remove installation files and restrict write access to the configuration file. These are legacy, version-specific directions: verify each path and permission against the actual package and server rather than applying them to a newer release.
Add website preview thumbnails as a separate integration
A third-party tutorial published March 29, 2026 demonstrates a general approach: request a screenshot from an external API, cache the resulting image, and connect capture and storage to directory data. This is an implementation example, not proof of an official phpLD feature, supported plugin or compatibility with a particular release. The tutorial also discusses running a headless browser yourself as an alternative. See the tutorial and check your application’s data model and the service’s current API and terms before implementing its example.

Plan the capture and storage flow
- Decide which listing field or related record will store the preview image URL or file reference. Confirm the available extension points in your phpLD package; the cited sources do not specify them.
- Choose where screenshots are generated: a remote screenshot API or a browser runtime you operate. The tutorial demonstrates the API-and-cache pattern; a self-hosted browser means you manage that runtime and its operation.
- Trigger capture when a listing is added or updated, or through a separate job. Keep capture outside the page-rendering path where possible so a slow remote page does not hold up a visitor’s directory request.
- Store the result and reuse it instead of capturing the target page on every directory view. Set a refresh policy that fits how often listing sites change.
- Display the stored image through a template or supported customization mechanism. Test the result on the exact phpLD release, including missing images and failed captures.
The sources do not establish a phpLD-specific schema, hook, plugin interface or ready-to-run integration. Those details must come from the installed package or its maintainer.
Use an API client or make requests directly
ScreenshotOne publishes a PHP SDK repository for requesting URL screenshots. That establishes the availability of a PHP client, not that it is required or compatible with a particular phpLD version. Consult its current documentation before using it: ScreenshotOne PHP SDK.

Another option is ScreenshotNeo, a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It supports a one-request capture and documents its request options at the API documentation. This example saves a PNG response for a listing URL; replace the sample URL with a validated listing target and keep the API key out of public code:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.png
For a PHP integration, use an HTTP client to issue the documented GET request, check the response and save the bytes to storage you control. Do not assume that a successful HTTP response alone proves the page produced a useful screenshot; inspect the service’s response headers and handle failures according to its documentation.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose between a remote API and a self-hosted browser
| Approach | What the cited material establishes | What you need to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot API | A March 29, 2026 tutorial demonstrates requesting an image and caching it; ScreenshotOne has a published PHP SDK repository. | Current API behavior, terms, options, billing, and integration with your exact phpLD package. |
| Self-hosted headless browser | The tutorial discusses a locally operated browser approach as an alternative. | Browser installation, server capacity, security, maintenance, and compatibility with your application. The cited material does not establish a phpLD-specific setup. |
Choose based on your operational constraints: an API delegates browser capture to a service, while self-hosting puts the capture runtime under your control and responsibility. In either case, caching avoids repeating work for every directory visitor.

Troubleshoot the setup without guessing
- You cannot find a “Screenshot Processor” setting: the cited PHPLD Next feature page and Version 5 manual do not document a component by that name. Check whether you have a separately installed plugin or custom code, then confirm its maintainer and supported release.
- Version 5 installation paths do not exist: those steps are specific to the legacy manual. Stop and use the instructions for your actual package rather than creating paths or changing permissions by guesswork.
- The installer cannot connect to the database or complete compatibility checks: verify the database details and server prerequisites against the exact release’s installer and documentation. The cited sources do not specify current server requirements.
- The capture request fails or returns an unusable image: inspect the API response and service documentation, validate the target URL, and handle timeouts or failed loads as errors rather than saving a broken thumbnail. For ScreenshotNeo, consult its API docs for response details.
- Listings are slow to display: avoid waiting for a fresh remote capture in the visitor-facing request. Save and reuse generated images, and refresh them separately.
- A thumbnail does not appear in the directory: check that the capture output was stored and that your template or customization actually reads its reference. The cited sources do not document a built-in phpLD thumbnail field or display template.
What the cited documentation does not establish
The cited material does not identify a native screenshot processor, official screenshot integration, phpLD-specific thumbnail schema, supported plugin, or compatibility guarantee. It also does not establish current payment support for PHPLD Next; the Version 5 manual’s PayPal documentation applies to that legacy version only. Treat API-based thumbnails as your own integration unless the maintainer confirms otherwise for your exact release.
