If Photoshop freezes or crashes when you print in Windows 11, first check whether the same printer can print from another app. If other apps print normally, focus on Photoshop; if they also fail or jobs get stuck, troubleshoot Windows printing and the printer driver. Adobe’s current guidance covers general Photoshop crashes and a specific unresponsive Print Settings button, but does not confirm one general Windows 11 printing-crash bug or fix.
Start by locating where printing fails
Before changing settings, record your Photoshop version, Windows 11 build if available, printer make and model, connection type, and the exact action that triggers the freeze. Note whether the problem starts when opening the print dialog, selecting Print Settings, submitting the job, or waiting for output. Also note any recent Photoshop, Windows, driver, or connection changes; these are useful clues, not proof of a cause.
Try printing to the same printer from another Windows application. If another printer is available, testing it can help establish whether the failure is limited to one printer. This comparison is a practical way to choose between the Photoshop and Windows troubleshooting paths; it does not by itself identify the cause.

- Other apps also fail, or jobs remain in the queue: Check Windows printer troubleshooting, the driver, and the Print Spooler.
- Only the Print Settings control is unresponsive: Follow Adobe’s guidance for that specific symptom rather than treating it as a general crash fix.
If printing fails only in Photoshop
Adobe’s crash guidance is general rather than specific to printing on Windows 11. Check Adobe’s Photoshop crash or freeze troubleshooting and performance and freezing guidance. Check known issues, update Photoshop if an update is available, then restart and test. Make one change at a time so you can tell whether it affected the problem.

Temporarily test GPU involvement
Adobe recommends isolating graphics-processor issues as part of general Photoshop troubleshooting. Temporarily turn off Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop’s performance preferences, restart the app, and try printing again. Treat this as a diagnostic test, not an automatic permanent setting: if it changes the result, you have a useful clue for further troubleshooting.
Test with optional plug-ins skipped
Third-party or optional plug-ins can also be isolated during Adobe’s general crash troubleshooting. Start Photoshop with optional and third-party plug-ins skipped, then test the same print action. If the freeze no longer occurs, re-enable plug-ins selectively to identify whether one is involved.

Reset preferences only if needed
Resetting Photoshop preferences is another general diagnostic option. Adobe warns that a reset restores preferences to their defaults, so preserve or note any settings you rely on before doing it. Restart and repeat the same print test afterward.
If printing fails in multiple Windows apps
When more than Photoshop is affected, follow Microsoft’s Windows printer troubleshooting rather than assuming Photoshop is responsible. Microsoft recommends using the printer troubleshooter in Get Help on Windows 11. Its printer connection and printing guidance also covers driver and queue checks.

Look for jobs that are stuck in the print queue and follow Microsoft’s steps to clear jobs or restart the Print Spooler. Microsoft notes that spooler problems can leave jobs stuck and make applications hang when printing. See its Print Spooler troubleshooting. If the printer driver needs attention, use a driver compatible with your Windows version from the printer manufacturer; avoid random driver-download utilities.
If the Print Settings button is the only part that hangs
Adobe has a narrower article for an unresponsive Print Settings button, including the case associated with Printer Manages Color. Adobe identifies older drivers, files printed with an older driver, and damaged printer-driver preferences as possible factors for that symptom. Follow its Print Settings button troubleshooting and obtain a current Windows-compatible driver from the printer manufacturer. This guidance addresses the button issue; it does not establish a fix for every Photoshop crash during printing.

When the problem continues
If the same failure remains after the relevant checks, collect the details you recorded along with the exact steps that reproduce it. Use Adobe’s crash-report or support route from its crash and freeze guidance. There is no confirmed universal remedy in the current guidance, so avoid assuming a change has fixed the issue until the same print workflow succeeds on your system.
