Play Persona 4 Golden if you want to start now; consider Persona 4 Revival if you can wait for its announced 2027 release and prefer updated presentation and systems. ATLUS describes Revival as a full remake of Golden that retains the original story line, but the game has not been released, so its final content and quality cannot yet be judged.
What is different between Persona 4 Revival and Persona 4 Golden?
The confirmed difference is that Revival is being presented as a remake of Persona 4 Golden, not simply as a remake of the original Persona 4. ATLUS says the remake keeps the original story line while refreshing the experience. That does not confirm that every Golden scene, side activity or feature will carry over unchanged.

When and where can you play Revival?
As of October 3, 2026, Revival is unreleased. SEGA’s English announcement gives February 18, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and Steam. ATLUS also lists a Nintendo Switch 2 version dated May 20, 2027. Check official regional listings closer to launch for availability and storefront details.
SEGA Japan lists boxed editions for PS5 and Switch 2, and a Limited Box for PS5. The Japanese Limited Box is described as including the physical game, a 48-page artbook, a Midnight Channel phone pouch, an original T-shirt, a designer box and a costume set. Those details do not establish that the same edition or contents will be sold in every region. See SEGA Japan’s product page.

Which should you play?
Choose Persona 4 Golden if you want to play now
Golden has an ATLUS game listing on Steam, published by SEGA, with a PC release date of June 13, 2020. The source establishes that PC listing; check your local storefront for other platform availability. View Persona 4 Golden on Steam.
Wait for Persona 4 Revival if its announced updates appeal to you
If modernized visuals, UI, combat and events are a priority and you are comfortable waiting for the announced 2027 release, Revival is the option to watch. That recommendation is about timing and announced features—not a claim that the unreleased game is better.

You do not need both to follow the story
ATLUS says Revival retains the original story line, so the available information does not suggest that players must finish Golden first. Whether the released remake substantially changes particular scenes or Golden-specific activities remains unknown.

Publisher descriptions establish the remake’s broad direction, not a complete feature checklist or a finished-game verdict. Until release, there is no confirmed basis for comparing technical performance, final quality, playtime, critical reception or every Golden-only scene and side feature. ATLUS’s June 2025 announcement quoted P-STUDIO Director Kazuhisa Wada saying the team was confident it would be a “fresh and surprising product” for newcomers and longtime fans; that is the studio’s stated aim, not an independent assessment of the finished game.
