Perplexity launched its Election Information Hub on November 1, 2024, four days before the U.S. general election. It brought voting guidance, AI-generated candidate and ballot-measure explainers, and live election results into one place. The hub was built for the 2024 election; the announcement does not establish that it remains available for later elections.

What Perplexity’s Election Information Hub included

The hub grouped information across presidential, Senate, House, state, county, and local contests. It aimed to answer practical questions such as where and when to vote, what identification or other requirements applied, and when registration or ballot-submission deadlines fell. It also generated summaries of candidates, policy positions, endorsements, and ballot measures. Perplexity’s announcement described the hub as a way to help people understand issues, vote, and follow results.

Local guides and ballot explanations

Users could generate custom guides about local candidates and issues. Ballot-measure pages explained what a yes or no vote would mean, outlined arguments for and against a measure, and included legislative history. That could make unfamiliar races and proposals easier to navigate, but an AI-generated explanation is a starting point—not an official interpretation or a substitute for reading the measure itself. Perplexity’s launch materials describe the feature set.

Live election results

For election-night coverage, the hub displayed maps and race updates using data from The Associated Press and access to Democracy Works’ Elections API, according to Perplexity. TechCrunch reported that results generally refreshed about once a minute, but also documented occasional map bugs, including periods when vote-count percentages were not displayed correctly. TechCrunch’s election-night account offers useful context on both the updates and the glitches.

What the usage figures say—and what they do not

Perplexity reported that around one in ten of its users used the hub for election-night coverage and that thousands of users generated custom guides about local candidates and issues. The company also said nearly 30% of trending searches in the United States in 2024 were election-related. These are company-reported figures; they do not independently establish accuracy, user satisfaction, or how representative hub users were of voters overall. Perplexity’s announcement contains the hub-use figures, while its 2024 election trends post reports the search statistic.

How to use an AI election guide safely

Election information can be time-sensitive and location-specific. Treat the hub’s summaries as a navigation aid, then confirm consequential details through an election authority or original source. This is especially important because coverage of the launch noted the broader risk of generative-AI errors in election settings.

  • Check voting requirements and deadlines with your state or local election office. Eligibility, registration cutoffs, polling locations, and ballot-return rules depend on jurisdiction.
  • Confirm a result with election authorities or the named reporting source. A live map can lag, contain display errors, or show incomplete counts while votes are being reported.
  • Read the underlying ballot language and official voter guide. Use an AI summary to identify questions, not as the sole basis for deciding what a measure does.
  • Follow source links where available. A summary is more useful when readers can inspect the material behind it.

For a dependable local answer, go directly to your state or county election authority. Perplexity’s launch coverage itself advised checking official election sources for deadlines, eligibility, and results; its AI summaries and maps should not be treated as the final authority. TechCrunch’s report discusses these limitations.

Was the hub a useful election tool?

Its strength was bringing national-to-local election information, practical voting guidance, ballot explanations, and live results together in a searchable interface. Named data providers gave the results component identifiable provenance, while the maps and AI explanations still had limitations: the interface had reported display bugs, and summaries needed verification. The available announcement documents a tool for the 2024 U.S. election, not a continuing service or a guarantee of availability in a future cycle.
