Neither Paramount+ nor Max is the universal winner. Choose based on the films and series you can actually watch now, the sports events you care about, and the plan tier that includes them. Paramount+ has the lower advertised starting price; Max has selected live sports on its Standard and Premium plans, but not its Basic with Ads plan.
Compare the plans and monthly prices

Paramount+ is cheaper at its advertised starting price, and its Premium price is lower than Max Standard and Premium. Those prices do not make the plans direct equivalents: their catalogs, sports access, and viewing features differ. Compare the tier you would actually need, not just the entry prices.
Which service is better for live sports?
The answer depends on the competition and event—not just the league name. Both services promote selected sports content, not blanket access to every game or event in a league.

Choose Paramount+ for its listed CBS, soccer, and UFC offering
Paramount+ promotes live and on-demand UFC events, UEFA Champions League, Serie A and other soccer, NFL on CBS—including local games and featured national matchups—and college football on CBS. Its page says Premium is required for the promoted live college football on CBS. Premium also includes the local CBS station in its live-TV offering; live TV has ads even though Premium’s SHOWTIME on-demand content is described as ad-free. Choose Max for its selected live events, if they are on your schedule
Max lists selected live events including MLB, NHL, NCAA Men’s March Madness, U.S. Soccer, and premier cycling. Live sports are included with Standard and Premium, not Basic with Ads. The listing is not a promise that every game or event is available; consult Max’s U.S. plan and sports information and current schedule.

Before paying, verify the exact event, plan requirement, schedule, and any local-market or blackout restrictions. The providers’ plan pages do not establish availability for every event or market.

Which has the better movies and TV shows?
There is no established overall movie or TV winner here: the official sources reviewed do not provide a dated, comparable inventory of currently streamable titles. A brand’s studio and channel portfolio is not proof that a particular film or series is available in the app today.

Make a short list of your must-watch films, originals, franchises, and series, then search each service’s current catalog before subscribing. Streaming rights rotate, and availability can vary by country. Paramount’s corporate description identifies a portfolio spanning BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, and Smithsonian Channel, but that background alone does not confirm any specific title’s current availability. Compare ads and viewing features that matter at home
Ads
Max labels its entry tier Basic with Ads. Paramount+ describes Premium’s SHOWTIME on-demand content as ad-free, but that does not extend to live TV, which has ads. If uninterrupted viewing matters, distinguish on-demand programming from live feeds when checking the plan.

Streams and downloads
Max Standard permits two simultaneous streams and 30 downloads; Premium permits four streams (two for sports) and 100 downloads. These feature counts are stated on Max’s U.S. help page, accessed in 2026. Paramount+ advertises up to three simultaneous devices, and says downloads are a Premium feature; see its plan page and device and download information. Check current limits and eligibility if your household relies on multiple screens or offline viewing.

How to decide
- Write down your must-watch titles. Search both current catalogs for the specific movies and series you want, rather than choosing by brand reputation.
- Name the exact sports events. Check the competition, date, local-market availability, and any blackout conditions; then confirm which tier carries the event.
- Compare the needed tiers. Use the plan price and features that meet your requirements, including taxes where applicable—not only the cheapest advertised entry price.
- Factor in household viewing. Compare streams, downloads, resolution, and whether ads on live TV or on-demand content are acceptable.
