The Panasonic DMR-4X1010 has a 10TB internal hard drive, but Panasonic identifies 6TB for normal recording. On that normal-recording allocation, Panasonic estimates about 390 hours of 4K broadcast-quality video (4KDR), about 762 hours of terrestrial HD, or about 540 hours of BS HD. Longer recording modes can hold more, but trade image quality for duration.
How many hours can the DMR-4X1010 record?
Panasonic’s model specification lists the following approximate normal-recording times. The figures are manufacturer estimates for the Japanese broadcast formats and recording modes named, not independent test results.
| Broadcast or recording mode | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Terrestrial HD DR (17 Mbps) | 762 hours |
| BS HD DR (24 Mbps) | 540 hours |
| BS/CS 4K DR (33 Mbps) | 390 hours |
| HD 1.5x | 810 hours |
| HD 2x | 1,080 hours |
| HD 3x | 1,620 hours |
| HD 5x | 2,700 hours |
| HD 8x | 4,320 hours |
| HD 15x | 8,100 hours |
| 4K 1.3x | 507 hours |
| 4K 2x | 780 hours |
| 4K 3x | 1,170 hours |
| 4K 4x | 1,560 hours |
| 4K 6x | 2,340 hours |
| 4K 8x | 3,120 hours |
| Adaptive 4K 8–12x | 3,120–4,680 hours |

Why 10TB does not mean one fixed number of hours
Panasonic’s September 14, 2026 announcement names a 10TB HDD for the DMR-4X1010 and separately specifies 6TB for normal recording. The hour estimates above apply to that normal-recording pool, so they should not be presented as capacity calculations for the entire 10TB headline figure. The remaining allocation is associated with separate automatic-recording use cases, rather than being part of the normal-recording-hour table.

Even within normal recording, there is no single HD or 4K duration: broadcast type and recording mode change the estimate. For example, Panasonic lists 762 hours for terrestrial HD DR but 540 hours for BS HD DR, reflecting their different listed bitrates. Likewise, 4KDR at 33 Mbps is not equivalent to a compressed 4K long-recording mode.

What DR, 4K long modes, and adaptive recording mean
DR preserves broadcast-quality recording
The DR estimates are tied to the broadcast bitrates Panasonic states: 33 Mbps for BS/CS 4K, 24 Mbps for BS HD, and 17 Mbps for terrestrial HD. These are the appropriate rows to use when you want the listed broadcast-quality recording mode.
Long modes increase time by compressing recordings
Panasonic distinguishes 4KDR from long-recording modes that compress broadcast data to retain 4K image quality, as well as modes that record at HD quality. Its Diga FAQ states: “録画モードにより、画質・記録時間が異なります。記録時間が長くなるほど画質は低下します。” In translation: “Recording mode changes image quality and recording time. As recording time gets longer, image quality decreases.” Choose a higher multiplier when extra duration matters more than keeping the recording at DR quality.

Adaptive 4K duration depends on the program
Adaptive 4K 8–12x recording varies its compression according to program content. Panasonic cautions that high-motion sports or music can be recorded at an 8x-equivalent rate, so the actual available duration may be shorter than the displayed estimate. The listed 3,120–4,680-hour range is therefore not a guaranteed fixed duration.

Normal recording and automatic channel recording are different
The normal-recording estimates are expressed in hours; Panasonic describes automatic whole-channel recording separately in days. The September 2026 announcement advertises automatic recording of up to 10 channels for about 28 days in applicable configurations. For the DMR-4X1010, it also describes an additional-channel option—one 4K satellite channel or two HD channels—for about 13 days. These are configuration-dependent retention figures, not extra hours to add to the normal-recording table.

Where the DMR-4X1010 is intended to be used
Panasonic’s cited specification and announcement concern a Japanese-market recorder with Japanese terrestrial and satellite broadcast formats. The September 2026 announcement said release in Japan was planned for late October 2026 and listed the price as open. Check the current local listing and broadcast compatibility before treating those plans or specifications as applicable to another market.
Options if normal-recording space gets tight
Panasonic describes transferring recordings from the internal HDD to Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive, and also identifies Blu-ray and USB HDD as storage alternatives. The cited materials do not establish current cloud quotas, prices, or retail availability, so verify those details directly before relying on a particular option.
