Paid Memberships Pro (PMPro) has a free, self-hosted WordPress plugin, with paid licenses starting at $49 per month or $499 per year on the vendor’s pricing page accessed October 4, 2026. Paid licenses add premium add-ons, automatic updates, and support; the Max plans also bundle managed hosting and implementation services. Whether PMPro is worth paying for depends chiefly on whether you want to operate WordPress hosting yourself or pay PMPro to manage more of that work.

Paid Memberships Pro pricing in 2026

These are the prices and plan descriptions listed by Paid Memberships Pro on October 4, 2026. They are vendor-listed offers, not independently verified service or capacity results, and may change; check the current pricing page before purchasing. Prices are in US dollars.

Plan Listed price What the vendor describes
Free $0 Self-hosted open-source core plugin; free add-ons can be used without a paid license.
Standard $49/month or $499/year One-site license, premium add-ons, and support.
Max $99/month or $999/year Managed hosting and implementation/support services; plan page describes sites with an estimated 0–1,000 orders per month. The page also shows a crossed-out $149/month reference price.
Max 2x $299/month or $2,999/year Managed-service tier described for sites with an estimated 1,000–5,000 orders per month.

The pricing page says annual billing saves about two months and advertises a 100-day money-back guarantee. Confirm the current terms, eligibility, and billing details on the live page. The order ranges are vendor estimates, not a guarantee of capacity or performance.

What the free plugin includes—and what payment adds

The free option is not described as a time-limited trial. PMPro’s license documentation says the open-source core plugin and free add-ons do not require a paid license. A license key is used to access premium add-ons and automatic updates; paid plans also add support, with hosted services included in the Max operating model. See the license documentation.

This makes the Free-to-Standard decision primarily about add-ons, updates, and support—not whether the basic plugin can create a membership site. You still need WordPress hosting and must manage the site’s operational needs yourself on the self-hosted path.

What PMPro says the plugin can do

PMPro’s feature list covers access control, subscription and one-time billing, member administration, reporting, and integrations. These are vendor-documented capabilities; they should not be read as independent test results.

Restrict content and organize membership

  • Restrict posts, pages, categories, blocks, and custom post types, with content dripping for scheduled access.
  • Create unlimited membership levels, assign multiple levels to a user, and offer group or team memberships.
  • Build member directories and profiles, collect custom member fields, and send member emails.
  • Use memberships to support communities, events, courses, downloads, and other WordPress content.

Multiple simultaneous levels can be useful for add-ons or separately billed access. PMPro’s level groups let a site configure whether people choose one level or can hold multiple levels within a group; details are in its membership-level documentation.

Bill members and take payments

The vendor lists free and paid levels, one-time charges, recurring subscriptions, trials, coupons, proration, pausing options, renewal-date controls, variable pricing, and donations. It names Stripe, PayPal, and manual or offline payments, and documents an option to sell a membership level as a WooCommerce product. Gateway availability and setup depend on the intended country, payment account, and site configuration, so verify those details in the PMPro documentation before choosing a payment flow.

Manage members, reporting, and integrations

PMPro describes reports for revenue, signups, cancellations, active members, and orders, alongside member administration tools. Its feature list also names integrations with page builders, community plugins, email services, Zapier, and affiliate systems. Documentation says the core plugin includes 15 WordPress editor blocks and multiple shortcodes; see the shortcode and block documentation.

Standard versus Max: self-managed or managed

Standard is a plugin-license route for a site operator who already has WordPress hosting and is prepared to handle hosting operations and implementation. Max is a different arrangement: PMPro describes managed hosting on a dedicated server, site migration, security and performance services, and hands-on implementation. Its feature page lists a base managed-hosting configuration of 2 CPUs, 4 GB RAM, and 80 GB SSD; these are listed specifications, not a benchmark. Max 2x is presented as the higher order-estimate tier.

Choose based on who will own the operational work, not just the feature count. A self-managed site also has hosting, backup, security, and maintenance costs that are separate from a plugin license. A managed offer may reduce work for the site owner, but the pricing figures alone do not establish comparative total cost or service quality.

Setup, themes, and customization

PMPro documents a setup wizard that guides installation through membership levels, frontend pages, payment gateway, security, and email settings. The documentation also covers settings, templates, compatibility, and developer hooks. A guided flow is evidence of documented setup support, not a promise that configuration is effortless or takes a particular amount of time.

Memberlite is PMPro’s official theme, but the vendor says the plugin can be used with other WordPress themes; a dedicated theme is not presented as a requirement. Customization needs will depend on the chosen theme, plugins, payment setup, and the membership experience the site intends to provide.

Is Paid Memberships Pro worth it?

PMPro is worth considering if you want a WordPress-based membership system with flexible access rules, multiple levels per user, and a free core plugin you can run on your own hosting. The free tier gives a way to evaluate the basic approach without paying for a license; Standard is the paid entry point when premium add-ons, automatic updates, and support matter. Max is aimed at operators who also want PMPro-managed hosting and implementation services.

The available evidence establishes what PMPro advertises and documents, but not how its performance, ease of use, support quality, or value compares with competing membership plugins in practice. Before committing, verify the current plan inclusions, payment gateway availability for your market, and whether the annual software and hosting cost fits your budget.

Who should choose each option?

  • Free: You want to build on the open-source core, use free add-ons, and handle hosting and site administration yourself.
  • Standard: You want a paid license for premium add-ons, automatic updates, and support while retaining control of hosting.
  • Max or Max 2x: You want a PMPro-managed hosting and implementation arrangement; compare the live service details and your expected workload with the plan’s stated order range.
