Short answer: neither Oxylabs nor Bright Data is universally better. Choose between them by matching the exact network (datacenter, residential, ISP or mobile), geography, session behavior, extraction method and billing unit to your workload. Oxylabs publicly lists Residential Proxies from $6/GB and Web Scraper API plans from $49/month, while Bright Data emphasizes a broad catalog of proxy networks, scraper APIs, browser tools, Web Unlocker and datasets. Those starting prices are not a like-for-like total-cost comparison.

This comparison reflects public product and pricing information retrieved September 29, 2026. Prices, limits, compliance requirements and plan names can change, so confirm the current offer before signing a contract.

What each company actually sells

Both providers cover more than raw proxy endpoints. They offer ways to route requests through different IP networks, retrieve pages, handle anti-bot challenges and, in some products, return structured web data. The implementation model is the first decision to make.

Oxylabs

Oxylabs’ catalog includes residential, ISP and mobile proxies, a Web Scraper API, a headless browser, OxyCopilot and other data services. Its proxy products leave crawling, parsing, retries and much of the browser logic to your software. Its managed products handle more of that work for you.

Bright Data

Bright Data lists datacenter, static residential/ISP, residential and mobile networks, plus Web Scraper API, Scraper Studio, Scraping Browser, SERP API, Web Unlocker and datasets. Depending on the product, you can use low-level proxy access or a managed retrieval and extraction workflow.

Raw proxy versus managed extraction

Model You operate Provider operates Best when
Raw proxy access Crawler, rendering, parsing, retries, storage and monitoring Proxy routing and network operations You need control over request logic and already run collection infrastructure
Managed scraper/API Inputs, schemas, scheduling and downstream processing More of retrieval, rendering, unblocking and sometimes parsing You want faster delivery of records or target-specific APIs
Browser or dataset product Automation code or dataset ingestion Browser execution or prepared data, according to the product JavaScript-heavy targets, SERP work or recurring datasets

Product names alone do not prove equal target coverage, output quality or success rates. Evaluate the specific product and sites you intend to use.

How to compare them for your workload

1. Define the collection job

  • Target: list domains, URL patterns, languages and logged-in versus public pages.
  • Output: decide whether you need HTML, screenshots, rendered DOM, parsed fields, SERP records or a dataset.
  • Volume: estimate requests or successful records per day and month, including retries.
  • Freshness: specify one-time collection, scheduled refreshes or near-real-time monitoring.
  • Automation: identify whether your system needs an API, browser automation, proxy credentials or a bulk workflow.

Use only sites and data you are permitted to access, and obtain legal and contractual advice for your jurisdiction and use case.

2. Match network type and geography

Datacenter addresses can be efficient for less restrictive targets. Residential and mobile addresses may better represent consumer connections but can have different pricing, availability and compliance requirements. ISP/static residential addresses are useful when you need a more persistent identity. Both catalogs include residential, ISP and mobile options, while Bright Data also explicitly lists datacenter networks.

Specify country, region, city or ASN requirements before comparing quotes. A large advertised pool does not guarantee availability in the exact location you need.

3. Decide on session behavior

Ask whether each workflow needs a rotating address per request, a sticky session for several minutes, or a persistent identity across a longer process. Confirm supported session controls, concurrency, authentication method and geographic precision for the exact product. Test on representative target pages; public materials do not establish a matched, independent head-to-head benchmark for every site.

4. Choose the right extraction layer

  • Own crawler: select proxy endpoints and implement HTTP, browser, parsing and retry logic yourself.
  • Rendered retrieval: use a headless browser or scraping browser when JavaScript, interaction or client-side navigation is required.
  • Unblocking API: consider a managed product when proxy rotation, challenge handling and browser execution would be expensive to build.
  • Structured API or dataset: choose a target-specific API or prepared dataset when consistent fields matter more than page-level control.

Oxylabs documents a Web Scraper API and headless-browser options. Bright Data documents Web Scraper API, Scraper Studio, Scraping Browser, SERP API, Web Unlocker and datasets. Verify target support, fields, rendering and retention terms before implementation.

Pricing and billing: compare the meter, not the headline

Oxylabs’ public pricing page retrieved September 29, 2026 lists Residential Proxies starting at $6/GB and Web Scraper API starting at $49/month. These are starting offers, not a guaranteed quote for your traffic, rendering mode or volume.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Oxylabs’ documentation gives a target-specific Web Scraper API example: its Micro plan allows up to 98,000 Amazon results or 49,000 Google results under the documented conditions. The documentation defines a successful result and states that system errors returning 5xx or 6xx are not billed. Those allowances do not establish an equivalent Bright Data plan.

Rank #3

Bright Data’s residential-proxy pricing FAQ says pay-as-you-go is available for datacenter, residential, ISP and mobile proxies, as well as Web Unlocker, self-service Web Scraper IDEs and SERP API. That statement confirms billing availability, not a complete price for an individual workload.

Cost question Why it matters
What is the billing unit? Bandwidth, IP, request, rendered page or successful result can produce very different totals.
What counts as billable? Check whether failed attempts, retries, browser time and non-success responses are charged.
What limits apply? Target, geography, concurrency, rendering and monthly minimums may cap usable volume.
Are there overages or commitments? Include recurring minimums, excess usage, support tiers and negotiated enterprise terms.

Build a workload estimate using your target mix, average page size, render rate, retry rate, session length and required geography. Then request current quotes from both vendors using the same assumptions. The available public information does not support a definitive total-cost winner for an unspecified workload.

Onboarding, compliance and operational risk

Bright Data says that some residential and mobile network access requires a compliance review. Do not assume identical approval or onboarding terms at Oxylabs. Ask each vendor which documents, use-case descriptions, identity checks and traffic restrictions apply to your exact account and product.

Before production, establish acceptable-use rules, robots and terms-of-service review, personal-data handling, credential storage, rate limits and an emergency stop. Log request IDs, target, proxy type, region, status, latency and billable outcome so you can reconcile invoices and investigate failures.

A practical evaluation plan

  1. Write a test matrix. Include your real domains, countries, page types, JavaScript requirements, session duration and expected record schema.
  2. Request equivalent products. Do not compare an Oxylabs raw proxy quote with a Bright Data managed API quote without accounting for the engineering work each includes.
  3. Run a controlled pilot. Use the same URLs, concurrency, timeout, retry policy and collection window. Record successful records, challenge rate, parse completeness, latency and billed units.
  4. Calculate total operating cost. Add proxy or API charges, browser infrastructure, engineering time, storage, monitoring and failed-request overhead.
  5. Check failure recovery. Test timeouts, target throttling, invalid credentials, exhausted allowances, regional shortages and provider status incidents.
  6. Document an exit path. Keep an abstraction around proxy credentials, request parameters and parsers so you can change provider without rewriting the whole collector.

Common failure modes and fixes

Authentication succeeds but pages return 403 or challenge screens

Possible causes include an unsuitable network type, over-aggressive concurrency, a target-side block or a session mismatch. Reduce concurrency, use the required sticky or rotating behavior, verify authorization and test another permitted network or managed product. Do not treat a proxy change as permission to bypass access controls.

Results are empty or fields are missing

Confirm whether the target requires JavaScript rendering, scrolling, interaction or a different parser schema. Compare raw HTML with rendered output, wait for a target selector and validate the response before counting it as a successful record.

Costs exceed the estimate

Check the billing unit, retries, render surcharges, minimums, overages and target-specific allowances. Reconcile provider usage logs with your own request IDs and stop automatic retries while investigating.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Geographic results are inconsistent

Verify the requested country, city or ASN is supported by the selected product. Confirm that DNS, timezone, language and browser locale are aligned when the target personalizes content.

Throughput is lower than expected

Measure connection, wait, render and parsing time separately. Increase concurrency only within provider and target limits; otherwise you may create more challenges and a higher bill. Cache immutable responses and schedule refreshes according to data freshness rather than maximum speed.

If your requirement is screenshots rather than proxy infrastructure

For a screenshot API, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes common consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has the lowest paid plan described here. It is a separate service from Oxylabs and Bright Data, intended for developers who need rendered images or PDFs through an API.

Or skip the browser setup

One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Cookie and consent banners, popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing result. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Oxylabs when its target-specific scraper, proxy mix, documented result allowances or workflow fit your pilot and quote.
  • Choose Bright Data when its combination of network types, browser, Web Unlocker, scraper tools, SERP API or datasets better matches your architecture and compliance path.
  • Choose neither yet when you have not defined the target, billing unit, geography, session model or legal basis. A pilot is more informative than vendor-wide pool or success-rate claims measured under different conditions.

Affiliate and partner notes

Oxylabs publishes an affiliate program with an application and review process. Its page states a 50% commission capped at $2,000 per referred client, subject to program terms and approval. Oxylabs also invites businesses that deliver scraping or data solutions to inquire about a service-partner network, but it does not publish guaranteed publisher commissions there. The reviewed material does not establish a comparable official Bright Data publisher program, so do not present the programs as symmetrical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Oxylabs and Bright Data interchangeable proxy providers?

They overlap in proxy access and managed web-data products, but their product menus, billing rules, target coverage and onboarding requirements differ. Compare the exact product rather than the company name.

Can I compare Oxylabs’ $6/GB rate directly with a Bright Data API price?

No. The Oxylabs figure is a starting residential-bandwidth rate. A managed API may charge by request, result, rendering or another unit. Normalize the full workload before comparing.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Do published success rates prove one vendor is better?

No. Vendor-reported figures may use different targets, products, dates and methods. A controlled pilot on your permitted workload is the relevant test.

Does Bright Data always require compliance review?

Bright Data says some residential and mobile access requires compliance review. Confirm the requirement for your specific product and account.
