An AI code reviewer can be technically right and still make a pull request harder to review. The problem is not only whether it catches issues; it is whether its comments help developers identify what matters without burying consequential findings in low-priority feedback. That distinction is at the center of a first-person essay published on Dev.to on August 27, 2026.
Why technically correct comments can still make a review worse
A finding may be defensible without being important enough to interrupt someone. Advice about naming or extracting a short function, for example, may be less consequential than a validation edge case. When both arrive as review comments with similar prominence, the developer has to spend attention deciding which ones deserve action.
The essay’s author puts the distinction this way: “is this technically an issue” and “is this worth interrupting someone for” are different questions. A reviewer that answers only the first can generate feedback without doing the harder work of prioritizing it.
What happened in the essay’s pull-request example
The author describes a pull request of roughly 200 lines that added a validation path and helper functions. An AI reviewer produced something like a dozen comments. The examples included naming advice, a possibly redundant null check, a theoretical race condition under unlikely production conditions, a suggestion to extract a short function, and an important validation edge case.

In the author’s account, the important finding was surrounded by eleven comments they considered less useful, and the developer nearly overlooked it. This is one person’s reported experience, not a benchmark or evidence of how frequently AI reviewers behave this way across teams.
How comment volume affects signal, attention, and trust
The author’s concern is that comment volume can reduce the signal in a review. If a developer has to inspect many low-priority observations to find the consequential one, they may skim or dismiss feedback further down the list. The essay describes this as a risk in its example; it does not measure the effect across teams.

Repeated low-value feedback may also erode trust. That is a concern raised by the author, not a proven causal result. Still, it explains why technically valid comments are not automatically useful: a reviewer’s credibility depends in part on whether developers can rely on its output to distinguish urgent problems from optional suggestions.
The essay describes review as “a signal-to-noise problem, and honestly kind of a trust problem too.” Its argument is that maximizing the number of detected issues is not necessarily the same as maximizing the value of a review.

What to consider when judging AI review feedback
The essay does not compare products or provide measured scores. Its argument does suggest useful questions for assessing a comment or a reviewer:
- Severity: Could the finding cause a meaningful defect, or is it mainly a style preference?
- Actionability: Does the comment identify a specific problem and a useful next step?
- Confidence and likelihood: Does the issue depend on an unlikely condition, and is that condition explained?
- Cost of distraction: Is this feedback important enough to interrupt the developer now?
- Volume and prioritization: Can a reader quickly distinguish the highest-consequence finding from lower-priority observations?
- Trust: Does the reviewer’s feedback help developers make decisions, or train them to skim its comments?
These are questions raised by the essay’s reasoning, not a validated scoring system. The source offers no product comparison, measured outcomes, or universal threshold for how many comments are appropriate.

Why the author says they started Codzee
The essay says this frustration was one reason the author began working on Codzee, described as an early project intended to focus on findings that deserve developer attention. The account does not establish Codzee’s current status or evaluate how well it achieves that goal.
The broader point is not that an AI reviewer should stay silent whenever it is uncertain, or that every style observation is worthless. It is that review tools face a prioritization problem: a comment’s value depends not just on whether it identifies a possible issue, but also on its importance, clarity, and cost to the person reading it.
