Kagi announced on October 2, 2026, that it is ending development of Orion for Linux. The existing Linux beta is expected to keep working, but Kagi says it will no longer receive updates from the company after that date—and advises against using it as your main browser.
What Kagi’s announcement means for Linux users
Kagi’s October 2, 2026 announcement ends Kagi-led development of Orion for Linux and Windows. For Linux users, the practical change is the end of Kagi updates to the current beta, not an announced shutdown: Kagi says the beta will keep working. The announcement does not say that the browser will stop launching or that existing builds will disappear.
Kagi also says it does not recommend using the Linux beta as a main browser. Without updates from Kagi, users should not count on the company to deliver future fixes or improvements. Kagi’s announcement does not specify which types of updates, if any, might come from a future community maintainer.
Will Orion for Linux be open source?
Kagi says it intends to open-source the Linux and Windows projects so the community can carry them forward. It has contacted open-source foundations and organizations about long-term stewardship, but says Kagi will not be the core maintainer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is an intention, not a completed handoff: the announcement names no successor maintainer and does not establish that the code has already been released or that a community fork exists. Kagi said it would share more details within 30 days of October 2, 2026, and invited interested developers, maintainers, and organizations to contact the company. Read Kagi’s announcement.
Why older Linux installation instructions may be misleading
Kagi’s Orion installation guide still describes Linux as an open beta and includes Flatpak installation and update commands. It does not mention the October 2 development announcement. Treat that page as installation documentation, not as confirmation that Kagi continues to develop or update the Linux browser; the newer announcement is the source for current support status.
