As of October 7, 2026, the full game had not yet launched, so specific puzzle solutions and a verified hardest-puzzle list were not available. The best preparation is to learn each world’s rules carefully, keep track of how abilities interact, and use the game’s freedom to move on and return later.
What makes Order of the Sinking Star challenging?
The official Steam listing describes a single-player puzzle adventure with more than 1,000 handcrafted, interconnected puzzles across four worlds. Each world introduces its own ideas, and the systems grow more intertwined as the worlds and characters meet. The game also lets you explore at your own pace, move between worlds, and revisit challenges.

That structure points to a useful mindset: do not treat the game as a straight sequence of unrelated riddles. A puzzle may ask you to understand a local rule, while a later challenge may combine that rule with something learned elsewhere. Several heroes have complementary abilities, and collected notes contribute to the story’s mystery.

Learn the rule in the world you are in
Watch what changes when you interact with objects, characters, paths, reflections, or beams of light. Try to identify one cause-and-effect relationship at a time, then check whether it holds in another situation. The worlds draw on different puzzle foundations, so do not assume that a rule from one area applies unchanged everywhere.
#1 Best Overall
The official listing names four foundations: Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, where stones create paths across water; Mirror Isles, which involves swapping places with reflections across islands; Promesst 1–3, centered on beams of light in a cave; and Heroes of Sokoban 1–3, featuring distinct hero classes with movement and pushing mechanics. These descriptions signal the range of puzzle ideas, but they do not establish the exact rules or solutions of any individual challenge.
Change one variable at a time
When testing an idea, change one interaction and observe the result before adding another. If a new character or mechanic appears, note what it can do and what it changes in the environment. This is general puzzle-solving advice—not a developer-published procedure—but it can make complex interactions easier to reason about.
Keep track of discoveries
A short note such as “this character can push this object” or “this beam changes when I move here” can help when systems later combine. Treat each observation as a rule to test, not as proof that it applies everywhere. The game’s collected notes also contribute to understanding its mystery, so read them as part of the experience rather than assuming every clue is a direct puzzle instruction.
Should you move on when you are stuck?
Yes. The official description explicitly supports moving between worlds and returning to challenges. If you have tested the obvious interactions and are no longer learning from repeated attempts, explore elsewhere and come back with fresh context. Because mechanics evolve and puzzle systems intertwine, something learned later may help you interpret an earlier obstacle.
The available official materials do not establish a mandatory order for the four worlds or a recommended route. Choose where to explore based on what interests you, rather than following an unverified route posted as if it were required.
How much help should you use?
If you want to preserve the satisfaction of solving puzzles, seek help in stages. Start with a conceptual nudge, then look for a reminder of the relevant mechanic, and use explicit steps only if you still need them. This is a spoiler-management approach, not an official in-game hint system. The official pages checked before launch did not publish a hint ladder or verified solutions for named puzzles.
Be cautious with completion routes or claims about a specific “hardest” sequence: as of October 7, 2026, the full game was still pending release, and those claims had not been verified against the finished game. This article is preparation and general strategy, not a walkthrough.

Release and platform details
Steam’s official listing gave October 8, 2026 as the planned release date, but still marked the game as not yet available on October 7. The official Steam community announcement said the launch would be on PC via Steam and Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, with regional timing reaching October 9. Check the relevant store for current availability in your region.
The community announcement reports Steam Deck Verified status. That makes Steam Deck an announced portable option, but it does not establish performance on a particular device from firsthand testing. The official Steam listing also gives interface and subtitle support in 11 languages, with full audio listed for English and Simplified Chinese.
