The Optoma UHZ66 pairs a manufacturer-rated 4,000-lumen laser light source with a notably low-latency 1080p gaming mode, but its fastest play is not 4K. Optoma lists 4.4ms at 1080p/240Hz and 17ms at 4K/60Hz, so the key question is whether you value high refresh at 1080p or 4K resolution more. HDR quality, placement flexibility and the model’s discontinued status in the US are also worth weighing before you buy.
What the UHZ66 offers
The UHZ66 is a single-chip DLP projector that Optoma describes as a compact 4K UHD DuraCore laser model for home entertainment and gaming. Its official specification lists 3840 × 2160 resolution, a native 16:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 and HLG compatibility, and rated brightness of 4,000 lumens. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements; the available reviews do not establish a measured brightness figure.
Optoma also rates the laser light source for up to 30,000 hours. That is a rated light-source life, not a guarantee of how long the whole projector will last or how bright it will remain. Optoma describes the design as maintenance-light, which should not be read as maintenance-free. Optoma UHZ66 specifications

Gaming: choose between 4K and the fastest refresh
The UHZ66’s most attractive gaming specification is its 1080p/240Hz mode. Optoma lists input lag of 4.4ms for that mode, while its 4K/60Hz mode is listed at 17ms. Stuff’s review also reports these mode-specific figures. The 4.4ms figure does not apply to 4K gaming.

| Mode | Resolution and refresh rate | Listed input lag |
|---|---|---|
| High-refresh gaming | 1080p at 240Hz | 4.4ms, as listed by Optoma |
| 4K gaming | 4K at 60Hz | 17ms, as listed by Optoma |
In practice, the choice is straightforward: use 1080p if you want the listed 240Hz mode, or choose 4K at up to 60Hz for higher resolution. The specifications do not establish 4K/120Hz support. They also do not establish measured lag across every input format or image-processing setting, so treat the figures as mode-specific claims rather than a result guaranteed in every setup. Stuff’s UHZ66 review
Picture quality: bright on paper, less convincing HDR in review
Optoma’s 4,000-lumen rating makes the UHZ66 a candidate for a large image or some viewing with room lights on, but it is not a promise that the picture will look vivid in any bright room. Optoma’s guidance excludes direct sunlight and lights aimed at the screen; screen size and surface, room lighting and projector placement also affect the result.

The projector accepts HDR10 and HLG signals, but format compatibility alone does not demonstrate strong HDR rendering. TechRadar’s review says HDR viewing leaves plenty to be desired. That is the publication’s assessment, not a measured HDR result in the available material, and there is no independent brightness or HDR measurement here to quantify the tradeoff. Optoma lists a throw ratio of 1.4:1–2.24:1, a 1.6× manual zoom, a 116% native offset and a diagonal image-size range of 26–303 inches. These figures describe the projector’s stated range, not a guarantee that every image size will fit every room. Optoma lists horizontal and vertical keystone correction of ±30 degrees, as well as 360-degree and portrait projection. Keystone correction can help fit an image when placement is constrained, but it does not replace checking the throw geometry. The product page does not list lens shift, and TechRadar specifically notes that vertical lens shift is absent. If the projector cannot be positioned at the right height and angle, that limits how easily you can align the image without relying on correction.
Connections, sound and physical details
Optoma’s US product page lists HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.0 with eARC, a 3.5mm audio output, USB-A power rated at 1.5A, RJ45 and RS232. It also lists a 15W speaker, a 28–35dB noise range and a net weight of 6.61lb. These are manufacturer-listed details; the available sources do not provide independent tests of connectivity, speaker quality or noise.

Should you buy the UHZ66?
The UHZ66 makes the most sense for someone who wants a bright-rated laser projector and values a very high refresh rate at 1080p, while accepting 4K/60Hz as the listed 4K gaming ceiling. It is less compelling if your priorities are 4K at high refresh, strong HDR performance, or flexible placement without lens shift. Before choosing it, compare projectors on the same factors that matter for your setup: refresh rate and input lag at your preferred resolution, measured brightness and color, HDR performance, throw distance, lens shift, light-source life, price and local availability. The sources available here do not establish a like-for-like competitor measurement set, so they do not support declaring a numerical head-to-head winner.
Availability needs particular care: Optoma’s US product page labels the UHZ66 discontinued. That describes the US manufacturer listing, not stock in every region or marketplace. Check local listings for current price, condition, seller, warranty and return terms before purchasing.
