That is a forecast, not a measured future result: the firm puts the market at USD 11.65 billion in 2025 and USD 12.57 billion in 2026, projecting 7.66% annual growth over 2026–2031 using its proprietary estimation framework.
Mobile is increasingly described as an important route into investing, but the published figures cited here do not establish what share of platform use happens on phones. In particular, Mordor’s estimate that retail investors account for 69.59% of the market’s application segment is not a mobile-usage statistic.
How large is the online trading platform market?
There is no single universally accepted market total in the figures available. Mordor Intelligence’s 2026 estimate places the global market at USD 11.65 billion in 2025, rising to USD 12.57 billion in 2026 and a projected USD 18.18 billion in 2031. Its 7.66% CAGR applies to the 2026–2031 forecast period. Mordor says its estimates use a proprietary framework updated with data and insights available in 2026; the public information cited here is not enough to independently reproduce the calculation.
These values describe estimated market revenue, not the value of assets traded, the revenue of any one broker, or investors’ returns. The 2031 figure should therefore be read as one publisher’s outlook rather than a settled industry measurement.

How do other market forecasts compare?
Forecasts differ in both their estimates and the years they cover. Fortune Business Insights’ 2026 forecast starts from a lower 2025 estimate and extends three years beyond Mordor’s endpoint.
| Publisher and forecast | 2025 estimate | 2026 estimate | Forecast endpoint | Reported CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mordor Intelligence, 2026 estimate (report page) | USD 11.65 billion | USD 12.57 billion | USD 18.18 billion in 2031 | 7.66% for 2026–2031 |
| Fortune Business Insights, updated 2026-09-14 (report page) | USD 10.82 billion | USD 11.57 billion | USD 18.50 billion in 2034 | 6.00% for 2026–2034 |
The two endpoints are not competing estimates for the same year: Fortune projects to 2034, while Mordor projects to 2031. Their different 2025 and 2026 estimates also show why it is better to compare each forecast on its own assumptions and time horizon than to combine the figures into a single trajectory.

Does the forecast show that mobile trading is becoming dominant?
No comparable mobile-use share is established by these market figures. Mordor’s 69.59% figure refers to retail investors’ share of the application segment in 2025; it does not measure the proportion of users, transactions, or market revenue attributable to mobile apps. Likewise, broad descriptions of smartphones as an entry point to trading are a market narrative, not proof that mobile has become the primary interface for investors.
A separate, older metric offers context but answers a different question. In a filing dated 2022-12-22, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing reported that retail investors represented approximately 47.4% of global securities-market trading volume in 2021, compared with 39.6% in 2017, and projected 48.8% for 2026. Those figures concern trading volume, not online-platform market revenue or mobile access; the 2026 value was a projection in that filing, not a current observation (HKEX filing).
What segments and regions are expected to grow?
Retail applications and cloud deployment
Mordor estimates retail investors made up 69.59% of the market’s application segment in 2025 and forecasts that segment to grow at a 8.43% CAGR through 2031. It estimates cloud deployment accounted for 63.42% of the deployment segment in 2025, with an 8.51% CAGR forecast through 2031. These are separate market segment measures: neither tells readers how many investors trade on a phone.
Regional outlook
In Mordor’s 2025 estimate, North America was the largest region, with 33.87% of market revenue. Asia-Pacific is forecast to grow fastest, at a 9.03% CAGR through 2031. These regional figures are the firm’s estimates and projections, not audited industry totals.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should readers interpret the $18.18 billion headline?
- It is a forecast, not an observed total. USD 18.18 billion is Mordor Intelligence’s projected 2031 market size.
- Market size is not trading volume. The estimate concerns platform-market revenue; the HKEX filing’s retail percentage concerns securities trading volume.
- Retail share is not mobile share. Mordor’s application segmentation does not establish what portion of trading occurs through mobile interfaces.
- Forecasts depend on their publisher and period. Compare base year, endpoint, CAGR interval, currency, and methodology instead of treating differently timed projections as interchangeable.
- The total says nothing by itself about an individual broker. It does not establish a particular company’s revenue, customer growth, or investment performance.
