Choose the OnePlus Nord Buds 3 if you want active noise cancellation (ANC) while listening and a transparency mode. Choose the Nord Buds 3r if you do not need listening ANC and would rather prioritize OnePlus’s higher claimed battery life: up to 54 hours with the case, compared with up to 43 hours for the Nord Buds 3 with ANC off. Those are manufacturer test figures, not guaranteed real-world runtimes.
Nord Buds 3r or Nord Buds 3: what is the difference?
The key buying distinction is listening ANC. OnePlus lists ANC of up to 32 dB and a transparency mode for the Nord Buds 3. The 3r’s feature list includes AI noise cancellation for calls, but that is not ANC for music or other listening. An independent review also reports that the 3r does not support ANC.
Battery claims favor the 3r on paper, but the Nord Buds 3’s figures depend on whether ANC is on. Both models list 12.4 mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.4 and IP55 resistance for the earbuds.

| Claimed playback, earbuds only | Up to 12 hours | Up to 8 hours with ANC on; up to 12 hours with ANC off | The 3r’s claim matches the Nord Buds 3 only with ANC off. |
| Claimed playback, including case | Up to 54 hours | Up to 28 hours with ANC on; up to 43 hours with ANC off | The 3r has the higher published total; the Nord Buds 3 figures vary with ANC use. |

Which model should you buy?
Choose the Nord Buds 3 for listening ANC
If you want to reduce surrounding noise while listening, the Nord Buds 3 is the straightforward choice: OnePlus lists ANC up to 32 dB and a transparency mode. The company’s claimed playback is up to 28 hours including the case with ANC on. That figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent runtime test.

Choose the Nord Buds 3r for the higher claimed battery total
If listening ANC is not important and longer claimed battery life is, the 3r is the better match on paper. OnePlus claims up to 54 hours including the case and up to 12 hours per earbud charge. For the per-charge figure, OnePlus specifies 50% volume and AAC mode; its battery information is based on laboratory results, actual performance may vary, and the 54-hour total is also a manufacturer claim rather than an independent result.
Compare current checkout prices, not launch prices
Business Standard reported an India launch list price of ₹1,799 and an introductory price of ₹1,599 for the Nord Buds 3r in August 2025, with sales beginning September 8, 2025. Those are dated launch figures, not verified current prices. Current pricing and stock for either model were not established, so compare listings in your region before buying.

What the specifications do not tell you
They do not prove which one sounds better
The cited sources do not provide a controlled listening comparison between the Nord Buds 3r and Nord Buds 3. A shared 12.4 mm driver size is not a sound-quality score, so there is no evidence-based reason here to declare one the audio-quality winner.

Call noise cancellation is not listening ANC
The 3r’s AI call noise cancellation is presented as a call feature. Do not treat it as a substitute for the Nord Buds 3’s listening ANC: it addresses a different use.

IP55 applies to the earbuds, not the case
OnePlus’s Nord Buds 3 specifications state that the IP55 rating applies to the earbuds and excludes the charging case. The company also says resistance may decrease as the product ages, and liquid or dust damage is excluded from warranty coverage. The rating should not be read as permission to immerse the earbuds in water.
