Its rocker and dual-density foam aim to keep daily miles moving forward, but independent reviewers disagree about how protective and responsive it feels over longer runs. It is worth considering if you prefer a controlled, firm feel; runners who want soft cushioning or extra toe-box height should look closely at the fit and ride first.
What the Cloudmonster 3 is designed to do
On positions the standard Cloudmonster 3 as a daily trainer for runs ranging from recovery outings to steady-state training. Its design combines dual-density Helion foam, triple-layer CloudTec cushioning, an enhanced rocker and a nylon-blend Speedboard. On describes the intended effect as a playful, forward-rolling ride for daily runs; that is the manufacturer’s positioning, not a guarantee that every runner will find the shoe energetic.

It is the everyday-training model in On’s current Cloudmonster 3 lineup. The Cloudmonster 3 Hyper is aimed at long runs, while the LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper is positioned for long and tempo runs. Those are separate shoes, not versions of the standard model’s stated use. On’s February 2026 lineup announcement lists U.S. prices of $220 for the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper and $330 for the LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper; On lists the standard Cloudmonster 3 at $190.
How it feels: firm cushioning, with mixed reports over distance
“Max cushioned” can suggest a soft, plush ride, but the Cloudmonster 3’s defining characteristic in the reviews is firmness. The reviewers differ on what that firmness means in practice, especially over longer efforts, so neither account should be treated as a universal result.

A controlled ride for one long-run reviewer
Cat Bowen of Runner’s World describes a firm but cushioned ride and reports that the shoe maintained its balance on her 9–16 mile runs. She writes, “The firmness keeps the ride controlled and responsive.” That is Bowen’s account of her own runs, not a population-wide finding. She also praises the refined upper and lockdown, while flagging the heel collar as a possible drawback. Read Bowen’s review in Runner’s World.
A firmer, less protective result in RTINGS’ testing
RTINGS describes its tested shoe as firm, with weak rebound and cushioning that bottoms out early in its testing. It praises impact absorption in its cushioning test but says the firm foam and collapsing CloudTec pods limit shock absorption and rebound. That differs materially from Bowen’s favorable report over longer runs. The shared signal is a firm construction; the reviews do not establish that its protection or responsiveness will feel the same to every runner. See RTINGS’ Cloudmonster 3 review.

Fit and stability
On recommends a regular, true-to-size fit, and both independent reviews broadly describe the shoe’s length as true to size. Toe-box shape is a more specific concern: Bowen notes that some testers found it long, while RTINGS says the toe box has limited height despite accommodating arch and forefoot width. Runners who need more vertical room for their toes should pay particular attention to that fit rather than relying only on length.
RTINGS reports good lateral stability in its testing. That is a finding about its tested shoe and method, not a promise of stability for every runner or running style.

Cloudmonster 3 specifications and measured weight
On’s specifications and RTINGS’ measurements are not interchangeable. They come from different sources and sample sizes, and RTINGS’ measured stack and drop are higher than On’s listed figures. Use each set with its attribution rather than combining them into one specification.
| Measure | On’s listed specification | RTINGS’ tested sample |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 295 g for men’s US 8.5; 240 g for women’s US 7, per On’s 2026 announcement. | 296.6 g for RTINGS’ tested men’s size 9 sample; review page accessed in 2026. |
| Heel stack | 35 mm, per On’s 2026 announcement. | 40.1 mm, measured by RTINGS on its tested men’s size 9 sample. |
| Forefoot/toe stack | 29 mm at the toe, per On’s 2026 announcement. | 32.8 mm forefoot stack, measured by RTINGS on its tested men’s size 9 sample. |
| Heel-to-toe drop | 6 mm, per On’s 2026 announcement. | 7.3 mm, measured by RTINGS on its tested men’s size 9 sample. |
On’s figures are manufacturer-listed specifications; RTINGS’ figures describe one tested size and its measurement method, so they should not be generalized to all sizes. On’s 2026 announcement also gives the standard model a U.S. price of $190. Its U.S. product page lists the shoe as a daily trainer; price and availability can change by region, color, size and time.

Who should consider it—and who may want another feel
- Consider it if you want a daily road trainer with a firm, guided-forward feel and generally true-to-size length.
- Try it carefully if you need more vertical toe room, dislike a firm ride, or are choosing it specifically for long runs. Reviewer experiences of protection and responsiveness over distance differ.
- Look at the other Cloudmonster models if your main use is long runs or a mix of long and tempo runs; On assigns those roles to the standard Hyper and LightSpray Hyper respectively.
The standard Cloudmonster 3 makes the clearest case as an everyday trainer for runners who like firmness and a rocker-driven transition. It is not an obvious match for someone shopping for plush softness. The price listed on On’s U.S. product page is $190; check the page for current size, color, stock and regional pricing before buying.
