Ohio Mutual Insurance Group completed its merger with Idaho-based Gem State Insurance effective October 1, 2026. Gem State has been redomesticated to Ohio and joined Ohio Mutual’s mutual holding company structure. Ohio Mutual says the Gem State name will remain in the market as it plans to add products and member benefits for Idaho policyholders.

What changed when the merger closed?

Ohio Mutual’s October 1, 2026 announcement says Gem State Insurance joined its family of companies alongside Ohio Mutual Insurance Company, United Ohio Insurance Company, Casco Indemnity Company, and United Mutual Insurance Company. The deal followed unanimous board approval in April and a Gem State member vote approving the merger on July 1, 2026. What does Ohio Mutual say the merger adds?

Ohio Mutual reported that the transaction brings nearly 13,000 Idaho policyholders and more than 60 independent agencies into its organization. It said the combined group has nearly 600 independent agency partners across nine states. These are company-reported figures in the completion announcement, not independently audited totals. Will Gem State Insurance keep its name?

Why did the companies pursue the merger?

When the proposal was announced, Gem State President and Board Chair Gene Guilfoy said the partnership would let Gem State build on its existing business, offer additional products, expand its Idaho market share, and continue serving policyholders and agents.
