Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For one local video, add it to an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop. To keep the stream running overnight, also prevent the Mac from sleeping and enable OBS Automatic Reconnect for recoverable connection drops. These settings address different problems; none guarantees an uninterrupted stream through every computer, network, software, or streaming-service failure. Test the complete setup before leaving it unattended.
Set up a single video to loop
- In OBS, select the scene that should play the video.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source.
- Give the source a name, then select the local video file in its properties.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the changes. OBS documents Media Source support on macOS and lists MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM among supported formats. Its Restart playback when source becomes active option is on by default; check the installed version because labels can vary. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Start playback and observe it through the end of the file to confirm it starts again. A short test alone may not reveal an end-of-file or reconnect problem.
Loop a playlist instead
For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source. OBS documents Loop Playlist as enabled by default. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear; if you use 64-bit OBS, the documentation says to install 64-bit VLC.
- Add VLC Video from the Sources panel and create or select the playlist.
- Check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Review Visibility Behaviour. The documented default stops playback while the source is hidden and restarts it when visible. If your scene switches hide the source, choose the behavior that suits your setup and test a scene change.
The built-in Media Source is the direct choice for a single file; VLC Video is the documented playlist option. OBS describes local-file playback for Media Source but does not describe playlist management for it. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Keep the Mac awake and powered
Set macOS power options so the Mac does not go to sleep while the stream is unattended, and connect reliable power. Turning off the display is not the same as putting the computer to sleep. Exact power-setting labels and availability depend on the macOS release and Mac model, so verify the settings on the machine you will use rather than relying on an old menu path.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is a specific, version-bound warning: an OBS GitHub issue opened May 19, 2023 reports macOS Screen Capture freezing after sleep on macOS 13 with OBS 29.1.1. The issue author reported that restarting OBS or switching to another scene collection and back restored capture. This is not evidence that every current version, or local Media Source playback, fails after sleep; it is a reason not to let the Mac sleep during an unattended stream. Read the issue report.
Enable reconnect for dropped connections
In OBS, open Settings and select Advanced; the OBS overview guide lists Configure Automatic Reconnect there. Enable it and review the available reconnect options in your installed release. This can help OBS recover from some connection drops, but it will not restart a stopped media source, wake a sleeping Mac, restore power, fix invalid streaming credentials, or resolve every service-side interruption. The precise recovery behavior depends on OBS and the streaming service. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

Test the whole stream before leaving
- Confirm the video or playlist continues after its end and behaves as intended when you switch scenes.
- Check that OBS remains active with the Mac awake and connected to power.
- Verify the stream reaches the intended platform and that its connection remains stable.
- Review the OBS log if playback, capture, rendering, encoding, or connection fails; identifying which part stopped narrows the fix.
OBS recommends testing settings, scenes, and stream smoothness in advance. Compatible hardware does not by itself guarantee good streaming performance: load varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. The Auto-Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point, but test the actual scene and output you plan to use. See the overview guide and OBS System Requirements.
Troubleshoot what stopped
The video stops at its end
For a single file, inspect the Media Source’s Loop option. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist and whether the VLC Video source is hidden by a scene change.

The source stops or changes when switching scenes
Check the source’s restart or visibility behavior. Media Source’s Restart playback when source becomes active is documented as on by default. VLC Video’s documented default stops while hidden and restarts when visible. Adjust only after deciding whether playback should continue when the source is not visible.
Capture freezes after the Mac wakes
Keep the Mac awake during the stream. If a screen-capture source has already frozen, the workaround reported in the OBS issue was to restart OBS or switch to another scene collection and back; it applies to the reported configuration, not necessarily every current setup.

OBS reports a dropped connection
Use Automatic Reconnect for recoverable drops, then investigate the network and service separately. Reconnect cannot address a media loop or sleeping computer.
The stream stutters or OBS struggles
Reduce the workload by testing an appropriate resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene complexity for your Mac. Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point and test the real setup; hardware compatibility alone does not establish that a particular stream will run smoothly.

Behavior changes after an OBS or macOS update
Check the current OBS compatibility table for your exact macOS version and processor architecture before installing or changing builds. The OBS macOS versions page dated July 29, 2026 lists OBS 32.2.1 for macOS 13 through 26 on Apple Silicon and Intel, with older operating systems assigned older compatible builds. This information can change; consult the current OBS macOS versions page rather than treating that listing as permanent.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Platform limits and copyright still matter
OBS settings cannot guarantee that a streaming platform will keep a broadcast available. Runtime limits, maintenance, stream-key or authentication requirements, and disconnect policies depend on the platform and account; check that service’s current guidance. The platform is not specified here, so no platform-specific limit or stream-key procedure can be stated reliably.
Before looping recorded material, make sure you have the rights to stream it and that it complies with the destination service’s rules. A video repeating successfully in OBS does not establish that its music, footage, or other content is authorized, or that the platform will accept it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the destination is YouTube and you are looping uploaded, prerecorded video rather than broadcasting a camera, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without leaving your computer or home connection on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
