For a Quran recitation stream built from a still image and audio, a practical OBS starting point is H.264 video at 30 fps, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and a bitrate matched to your chosen resolution and stable upload speed. YouTube’s published H.264 recommendation for 240p–720p at 30 fps is 4 Mbps. Use AAC or MP3 audio, test the complete playlist privately or unlisted, and clear the rights to the actual recitation recording and visual before broadcasting.
Before configuring OBS: check the channel and the content
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It also says streamers must be at least 16. Check that live streaming is enabled on the channel before spending time building the scene. In YouTube Studio, use the Live Control Room to create or schedule a stream and select encoder mode; the exact labels can change as YouTube updates Studio.
Clear the recording and every visual element
The Quranic text being religious scripture does not by itself make a particular recitation recording free to rebroadcast. Check rights in the recording and performance, and separately check any translation, calligraphy, background image, or other material in the stream. India’s Copyright Act recognizes performer’s rights and broadcast reproduction rights. Its limited exception for performance or communication during a bona fide religious ceremony should not be treated as proof that a continuous public YouTube playlist is automatically exempt.

Do not assume the format qualifies for monetization
The available official guidance does not establish whether a 24/7 Quran-recitation playlist qualifies under YouTube’s monetization or repetitive-content policies. Check the current monetization policies and the channel’s own status rather than assuming that religious content or a continuous playlist meets the requirements.
Choose a looping method in OBS
Use Media Source when you have one supported recording. For a rotation of multiple files, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable its playlist loop option. VLC must be installed for that source to appear in OBS.

OBS documentation lists MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV among common audio formats, and MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM among common video formats. If you use an audio-only recording, add a still image or another rights-cleared visual to the scene so viewers have a picture while the audio plays.

- Create a scene and add the visual. In the OBS Scenes panel, create a scene for the recitation stream. Add an Image source for a still background, or use another visual you have rights to broadcast. Size and position it to fill the canvas without obscuring any text.
- Add the recitation. For one recording, add a Media Source, choose the local file, and enable Loop in its properties. For a multi-file rotation, add a VLC Video source, choose the playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Play through the scene and check that audio is audible and the visual remains present.
- Set video output. Open Settings > Video. Choose a resolution your system and connection can sustain; 1280×720 at 30 fps is a reasonable starting point for a static visual, not a universal requirement. Set the frame rate to 30 fps. A higher frame rate usually adds little for an unmoving image and increases the amount of video data to send.
- Set the streaming encoder. Open Settings > Output, select the Streaming output section, and set the encoder to H.264 if available. Set Rate Control to CBR, the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and the bitrate to suit the selected resolution. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 240p–720p at 30 fps is 4 Mbps (4,000 Kbps in OBS). This is a recommendation for that range and frame rate, not a bitrate to apply to every resolution, codec or frame rate. YouTube says the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds.
- Configure audio. In the Streaming audio settings, choose AAC or MP3. YouTube’s advanced audio recommendations list 44.1 kHz for stereo and 128 Kbps for stereo. Keep the OBS sample rate and output path consistent with the source files where possible; mismatches can contribute to resampling or playback problems.
- Add the YouTube stream key. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the broadcast in encoder mode and copy the stream URL and key into OBS under Settings > Stream. Use RTMPS when available for encrypted transport. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not publish screenshots or logs that expose it.
Match bitrate to your upload connection
Measure upload speed on the same network and under conditions similar to the intended broadcast. The stream’s total bitrate must not exceed the upload capacity actually available to OBS. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload headroom; for example, a 4 Mbps video stream plus audio requires more than 4 Mbps of usable upload capacity, with room left for the rest of the connection’s traffic. A speed test taken when nobody else is using the network may overstate what is available later.

If the connection fluctuates, lower the resolution or bitrate rather than selecting the highest possible output. A stable, lower-quality stream is generally more useful than a high setting that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects. Check that the network can sustain the complete audio-and-video bitrate, not just the video figure.
Test the full playlist before relying on it
- Start with a private or unlisted test broadcast and let it run through at least one complete loop. Check that the first file starts, later files advance as expected, and the final item returns to the beginning without an unintended gap.
- Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt volume changes, and gaps between recitations. Confirm that the OBS meters move when audio is playing and that the output is audible on the YouTube preview.
- Check YouTube’s stream preview, stream-health indicators and any warning messages. View the broadcast from the channel or watch page and a mobile device to catch display and playback issues that the OBS preview may not show.
- Check the setup that has to operate for an extended period: restart behavior, available storage, computer thermals, power and network stability. Keep the media files available locally for the whole run.
- Monitor both audio and video quality after going public. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real program; for a static-image recitation stream, use the actual playlist and representative audio rather than relying only on a short silent test.
These checks reduce avoidable failures, but no OBS setting guarantees an uninterrupted multi-day broadcast. YouTube warns that network disruption can break a stream, and the published setup guidance does not specify a configuration that guarantees continuous operation.

Troubleshoot common problems
