Recommended Free Tools
For a 24/7 Malayalam news replay on YouTube, use RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate your computer and upload connection can sustain continuously. Set OBS’s output resolution to the stream resolution, test representative footage and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before relying on the setup. YouTube may not archive a live stream that runs longer than 12 hours, and replaying another outlet’s news raises separate copyright and monetization risks.
Recommended OBS settings for a 24/7 YouTube stream
These are starting points based on YouTube and OBS documentation, not settings verified on your computer. Hardware, source files, and sustained upload capacity determine what will work reliably. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations.
| Setting | Starting point | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Service and connection | YouTube service or YouTube’s server and stream key; use RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Treat the stream key like a password. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate is YouTube’s recommended encoding mode for live streaming. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Video codec | H.264 is a common starting choice | YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported codecs. The bitrate values below are specifically for H.264. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Both are listed as supported by YouTube. |
| Resolution and frame rate | Choose for the source and your sustained system capacity; 30 fps is a reasonable starting point for mostly static graphics | OBS notes that 60 fps can tax system resources. Test the actual system and footage. |
| Output resolution | Set to the resolution you intend to send | OBS distinguishes Base (Canvas) Resolution from Output (Scaled) Resolution. For example, a 1080p canvas can be downscaled to a 720p output. |
How much bitrate do you need for 1080p YouTube Live?
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. For 720p, YouTube recommends 6 Mbps at either 30 or 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees that your connection or encoder can sustain the stream. Consult the YouTube bitrate table for codec-specific guidance.
In OBS, open Settings > Output, select the streaming output mode and set rate control to CBR, then enter a bitrate suitable for the chosen resolution and frame rate. Do not choose a number simply because it is recommended for the resolution: test whether your upload connection can hold it without dropped frames. A lower frame rate can reduce encoding and upload load for news graphics and footage that do not need 60 fps.

Configure OBS and connect YouTube
- Get the stream key in YouTube Studio. Open the channel’s live control room and copy the stream key or select a key already configured for the broadcast. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s stream address and password. Keep it private; reset it if you believe it has been exposed. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Set the OBS connection. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. If configuring manually, use the server and key supplied by YouTube. The OBS guide covers the service, server, and key controls: OBS streaming with custom servers.
- Set the encoder. Open Settings > Output, use CBR, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Choose H.264 if using the H.264 bitrate recommendations in the table above; select AAC or MP3 audio.
- Set the video output. Open Settings > Video. Confirm the Base (Canvas) Resolution matches your OBS scene layout, and set Output (Scaled) Resolution to the stream resolution. Set the frame rate to match the source and desired load. OBS explains these controls in its output and video settings documentation.
- Test before scheduling a continuous run. Stream a representative section with the same type of motion, overlays, and audio as the planned replay. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages, OBS encoding load and dropped frames, and audio continuity. Leave the test running long enough to catch instability that would not appear in a short preview.
OBS’s labels and available encoder options can vary with version, operating system, and installed hardware encoders. Use the current OBS guide for the controls available in your installation: OBS streaming guide.
Plan for a 24-hour stream’s archive
YouTube can automatically archive a live stream if it is under 12 hours. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, YouTube says it “may not be captured at all.” A single 24/7 event therefore should not be treated as a reliable complete YouTube replay archive. Keep a local recording if preservation matters, or schedule separate, shorter broadcasts when distinct archives are needed. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.

YouTube’s live settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls, which let a creator start or stop a stream from the encoder. A custom stream key can be reused. Those controls do not change the archive limitation for a broadcast longer than 12 hours. Details are in YouTube’s stream settings documentation.
Copyright and monetization risks for Malayalam news replays
Confirm rights to every element
Before streaming, confirm you have rights to the footage, audio, graphics, and music, including the territories and uses covered by the license. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party material, including another live broadcast. It may replace a feed with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate a stream, and a licensed rights-holder may still need to add the channel to a Content ID allowlist. Archived streams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright.

Permission does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s reused-content policy is separate from copyright permission. It assesses monetization at the channel level and says content taken from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value may be considered reused. Permission alone does not settle that assessment, and copyright rules still apply. A stream that simply loops another publisher’s bulletins or news-feed readings therefore faces material monetization risk. Original reporting, meaningful commentary, or substantial editorial transformation may matter, but no particular channel outcome is guaranteed. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| YouTube shows poor stream health or the stream disconnects | Check whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate continuously. Reduce the bitrate or output resolution if needed, then retest. Verify the RTMPS server and current stream key. |
| Dropped frames or overloaded encoding | Check OBS’s encoding load. Try a lower output resolution or 30 fps instead of 60 fps, and retest with the same replay material. |
| Video appears soft or scaled incorrectly | Check Settings > Video and compare Base (Canvas) Resolution with Output (Scaled) Resolution. Confirm the output matches the intended stream format. |
| Audio is missing or interrupted | Check OBS audio source routing and meter activity, confirm the selected stream audio codec is AAC or MP3, and test a representative section before going live. |
| Stream key is rejected or broadcast does not connect | Confirm the key was copied from the correct YouTube live setup, that OBS is using the right service or server, and that the key has not been reset. Treat an exposed key as compromised and reset it. |
| Live footage is interrupted or replaced | Investigate third-party content detection and verify the rights and Content ID allowlist arrangements with the rights-holder where applicable. |
| No complete replay appears after a 24-hour event | That duration exceeds YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive threshold; use a local recording or shorter separate events when an archive is required. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home internet connection to run continuously, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping on a YouTube channel from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
