For a static-artwork Malayalam music stream, start with OBS using H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps, and a video bitrate matched to your resolution and upload capacity. For example, YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264. Before going live, clear the music for the specific channel and broadcast: OBS settings cannot grant music rights, and YouTube can interrupt a stream even when you have a license if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel.
Recommended OBS settings for a Malayalam music livestream
Use these as a starting point, not a universal preset. Your available OBS encoder, computer, visual design, and measured upload stability determine what will work. YouTube accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and recommends RTMPS. It supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video at up to 60 frames per second, but the table below gives YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance is the reference for the current supported settings.

Choose resolution and frame rate for the visual
If the stream shows static artwork or a slowly changing visual, 720p30 or 1080p30 is usually a sensible starting point. A 60 fps output is not inherently better for music when the visual has little motion; use it only if your visual design or other content benefits from it and your system can sustain the extra load. YouTube’s bitrate figures are platform recommendations, not guarantees of an uninterrupted broadcast.
Match bitrate to your real upload connection
YouTube recommends upload capacity equal to the total stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. For example, a 5 Mbps video bitrate needs at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity before accounting for any other simultaneous uploads or network use. Test on the same connection and with audio and video similar to the actual playlist. If the connection fluctuates or stream health reports problems, reduce the video bitrate or resolution and test again rather than assuming the recommended value will fit your network.

Prepare YouTube Live and OBS
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. Check your status in YouTube Studio before configuring a long-running broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance for current eligibility details.
Create the stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup and create or schedule the broadcast. Confirm the intended visibility setting and review options such as latency, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS’s streaming configuration. Use RTMPS where available.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it or share it casually; reset it in Studio if it may have been exposed.
- Set the encoder output to the chosen codec, CBR bitrate, 2-second keyframe interval, and audio settings. Menu names vary by OBS version and operating system, so confirm the resulting encoder output rather than relying on a version-specific path.
- Start a representative test stream, inspect the preview in YouTube Live Control Room, and check stream-health messages before making the broadcast public.
For a non-interactive music channel, lower latency may not be valuable and can increase playback buffering. Choose latency based on whether you need real-time audience interaction; verify the preview and playback behavior before settling on a setting. Clear Malayalam music before you broadcast
Having an audio file, buying a song, or subscribing to a music service does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it in a YouTube livestream. Confirm that your rights cover the actual songs, the channel, territories, continuous live transmission, and any replay or archive you intend to retain. The permissions needed depend on the catalog and license terms; platform guidance does not determine whether a particular Malayalam collection is cleared.

A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
- If you have licensed third-party music, YouTube advises: “If you’ve licensed third-party content to use in your stream, ask the owner of the content to add your channel to their allowlist through Content ID.” A license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
- YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that they have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Review the YouTube livestream terms and conditions and get advice appropriate to your rights arrangement where needed.
- After a stream ends, an archived video may receive a Content ID claim. Confirm that your permission covers the resulting replay as well as the live broadcast.
Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams before launch. Do not assume that a song is safe because it is devotional, traditional, widely shared, or available online; establish the rights for the specific recording and use.

Test and operate a 24/7 stream
A successful start does not prove that a stream will remain healthy for a day. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video, reviewing the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and monitoring quality. A continuous playlist also needs a person or documented process to check it and respond if the encoder, network, or source stops.
- Confirm music permissions and any required Content ID allowlisting before the test.
- Test the intended resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio, visual, network, and playlist source together.
- Watch the YouTube preview and stream-health messages. Listen to the audio and inspect the picture for problems rather than relying only on OBS’s “streaming” status.
- Check that the public/private setting, latency, DVR, and start/stop behavior match the intended broadcast.
- Decide who will monitor the stream and what they will do if the connection or encoder fails. Do not assume OBS or YouTube has configured automatic failover for your setup.
YouTube’s help says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not count on one complete archive; confirm the current behavior in Studio if replay availability matters. The archive detail appears on a localized YouTube help page, so check the guidance available to your account and region before relying on it.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health
Likely causes include insufficient upload headroom, competing network traffic, or an encoder struggling with its workload. Test the actual connection during the show’s typical conditions, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, and lower bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the output.

Check that OBS is capturing the intended playlist audio source, that the output uses AAC or MP3, and that stereo audio is configured at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. Re-test the actual playback path and listen in YouTube’s preview; a working OBS meter alone does not confirm that the audience hears clean audio.

YouTube replaces, interrupts, or terminates the stream
Review YouTube’s warning and identify the matched material. Resolve the rights issue, or have the rights owner add the channel to its Content ID allowlist when you are licensed to use the music. Do not restart with the same uncleared material and assume the warning will disappear.
The stream key fails or may have been exposed
Verify that OBS has the current stream URL and key from the correct YouTube Studio broadcast. If the key was shared or exposed, reset it in Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
A full-day replay is missing or incomplete
The broadcast runs longer than YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive window. Check Studio’s current archive behavior and ensure your rights cover whatever replay is retained; do not promise viewers one uninterrupted archive without verifying it.
