Choose OBS for a genuinely live church service that needs cameras, sanctuary audio, graphics, or scene changes. Choose cloud playout for an unattended loop of prerecorded sermons, worship sessions, or other church-owned or licensed videos. They solve different problems: a cloud loop does not replace live camera production, and a local OBS setup means the church remains responsible for its computer, internet, power, and recovery.
Choose the workflow that matches the content
| Question | Local OBS | Cloud playout |
|---|---|---|
| What content fits? | A live service with a camera, audio mixer feed, graphics, scene changes, or an operator. | Uploaded prerecorded videos or playlists intended to run unattended. |
| What stays on site? | The camera and audio chain, computer, encoder, internet connection, and typically an operator or responder. | The church handles uploads and scheduling; the provider handles the outbound streaming workflow described by its plan. |
| Main trade-off | Production control and use of existing equipment, in exchange for local maintenance and uptime responsibility. | Unattended scheduling, in exchange for recurring cost, provider dependency, and plan limits. |
| What should you test? | Camera/audio sync, representative movement and sound, upload stability, stream health, and outage recovery. | Uploads, YouTube permissions, playlist looping, continuity after interruption, archive plan, and cancellation or plan limits. |
For a hybrid schedule—live services at set times and prerecorded material between them—decide how the transition will be operated and monitored. Do not assume a prerecorded-playout plan can take over a live camera service; verify that the chosen workflow supports the actual schedule.
What a church needs before going live on YouTube
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, live streaming enabled, and free of a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions and eligibility guidance.
- Create the broadcast in Live Control Room. Select or create the event, then copy its stream key into OBS or the cloud service. The encoder’s key must match the one assigned to the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it outside the people and services that need it. See YouTube’s live encoder setup guide.
- Check stream capacity if running multiple broadcasts. YouTube currently documents up to 10 active streams per channel and up to 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits, not a recommendation to run multiple copies of the same service.
- Test at the venue before the service. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast, checking stream health, and choosing a bitrate the connection can sustain. Test the actual camera, mixer feed, graphics, and network path—not just an idle computer.
- Assign responsibility. For a continuous channel, identify who checks alerts and who responds to an internet, power, computer, or provider interruption. A 24/7 schedule needs a recovery plan, not merely a start button.
OBS settings and connection requirements
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; up to 60 frames per second; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. For a conventional OBS setup, use the codec and settings compatible with your computer and follow the broadcast’s stream configuration.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended bitrate | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 8 Mbps | A lower-resolution option when the venue’s upload connection cannot reliably sustain a higher target. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | A common choice for a live service when the camera source and connection support it. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | Useful only when the source benefits from 60 fps and the upload connection can sustain it. |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 encoder bitrates, not a guarantee of service quality on a particular Indian connection. YouTube advises running a speed test and selecting a reliable quality for the available upload. Other uses of the church connection also compete for capacity; the sources do not establish a universal headroom figure. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

A practical OBS setup sequence
- Connect the camera and audio source to the production computer. For a simple single-camera setup, an HD webcam is one possible camera; it is optional if the church already has suitable equipment. For a distant sanctuary view, check field of view, low-light performance, mounting, audio needs, and compatibility before buying. A church mixer feed may be more appropriate than adding a separate microphone.
- In OBS, configure the camera, audio input, and any required scenes or graphics. Confirm that the audio is synchronized with the picture and that the levels are clear without clipping.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and copy its stream key. In OBS, enter the YouTube server/stream details and key in the streaming settings. Keep the key private.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate to match the actual camera/content and the connection. Configure H.264 with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; choose the bitrate from YouTube’s guidance above, subject to a venue test.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast, then check YouTube’s stream-health indicators while speaking, moving, and switching scenes as the service will require.
- Document how the operator will respond to dropped internet, power loss, a frozen computer, or a stream-key error. For a local stream, recovery may require restoring power or connectivity and restarting OBS or the broadcast.
What continuous local operation entails
OBS can encode a live camera and audio feed, but the church’s equipment and connection have to remain available. A power interruption, computer failure, network drop, or unattended software problem can stop the feed. Plan for power and network resilience appropriate to the venue, and decide who can act when monitoring reports a problem. No generic bitrate or software setting can compensate for an unstable connection or unavailable equipment.
Cloud playout options for prerecorded church content
For a 24/7 playlist of prerecorded services, sermons, or worship sessions, hosted playout can avoid leaving a church computer encoding continuously. In the 24/7 streaming options discussed here, StreamNeo is the first service to consider for a YouTube-only prerecorded loop: its stated fit is always-on cloud streaming, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a first day free.

StreamNeo
StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos or playlists to YouTube. You upload the material, add the YouTube stream key, and go live; the service says it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. Its service descriptions and prices are vendor-published claims, not independently tested uptime guarantees. Confirm current terms, taxes, payment, storage, service geography, and support before relying on it for a church schedule.
Each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB of storage per slot (pooled across active slots), looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team. The same features apply across plans; only the subscription length changes. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a live camera feed. India-based churches can pay by UPI or card; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.

OneStream Live
OneStream Live’s help center says its 24/7 streaming feature is YouTube-only, requires Enterprise, supports uploaded or cloud-stored video selection and scheduling, and has a maximum duration of 30 days. That is a documented product path, not an India-specific quote; confirm current eligibility, terms, price, and renewal or restart process directly with the provider. See OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming instructions.

Browser-based live studios are a different category
StreamYard’s help guidance describes a browser-based live-production workflow and recommends wired Ethernet where possible. The reviewed help page does not establish unattended 24/7 prerecorded looping, so verify current product documentation before treating it as a cloud playout alternative. Or let it run in the cloud
If the church wants a continuous loop of prerecorded material rather than a live camera service, the cloud route avoids keeping a computer running at the venue. With StreamNeo, upload the videos or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
Copyright, archives, and church content
Before streaming, confirm the church has the rights needed for the music, sermon, video, and any other material. The permission should cover both live transmission and any later on-demand publication. YouTube’s guidance reminds creators to secure clearances for live streaming, rebroadcast, and on-demand audio/video. All content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube’s live-streaming policy guidance and YouTube Community Guidelines.
Do not treat the live stream as the only archive. A YouTube-published production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and recommends separately recording longer streams for manual upload. Because that guide is older, check the current behavior in YouTube Studio before relying on it. Keep a separate source recording for a 24/7 broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming production guide.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting and recovery
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube will not accept the stream | Channel eligibility, restriction, or stream-key mismatch. | Check verification and live-stream eligibility, confirm no applicable restriction, and verify that the encoder uses the key for the selected Live Control Room broadcast. |
| Stream health reports problems or viewers see buffering | Bitrate exceeds stable upload capacity, or the connection is inconsistent or shared. | Run a venue speed test; reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a reliable setting; test again under realistic network use. |
| Picture is visible but audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync | Wrong input, mixer routing, level, or synchronization configuration. | Test the actual service audio chain before broadcast; confirm the correct source is active and check levels and sync while speaking or playing representative audio. |
| Local OBS stream stops unexpectedly | Internet or power loss, computer failure, or encoder interruption. | Check venue power and connectivity, restore the computer and OBS if needed, and restart the broadcast using the documented response process. |
| Cloud playlist does not play or resume as expected | Upload, schedule, YouTube connection, plan limit, or provider behavior. | Verify files and playlist settings, YouTube authorization/key, current plan terms, and the provider’s interruption and restart guidance; run a test before depending on it unattended. |
Make the decision with a short venue check
- Write down whether the channel needs live camera/audio production, prerecorded looping, or both.
- Inventory the church’s camera, mixer, computer, internet connection, power arrangements, and available operator coverage.
- Test upload stability at the venue using the intended resolution and bitrate, while accounting for other network use.
- For cloud playout, test uploads, playlist behavior, YouTube connection, interruptions, storage needs, archive workflow, and the provider’s written plan terms.
- Confirm content permissions and decide how recordings will be retained independently of YouTube’s live archive.
