If OBS repeats one gaming clip instead of moving on, first check which source type is playing it. Media Source loops a single local file; it is not a playlist. Use VLC Video for a sequence of local clips, or check the playlist and repeat controls in YouTube if OBS is showing a YouTube page through Browser Source.

Identify what OBS is playing

In the OBS Sources dock, select the source and check its type. The fix depends on whether OBS is playing a file from your computer, a local playlist, or a YouTube page.

  • Media Source: a local media file. Its Loop setting repeats that file after it finishes.
  • VLC Video: a local playlist source for playing multiple files in sequence.
  • Browser Source: a web page loaded inside OBS. If its page is YouTube, YouTube’s player—not Media Source’s Loop setting—controls playlist progression and repeat behavior.

OBS documents these as distinct source types; see its Media Sources and Browser Source documentation.

Fix a local video that repeats instead of advancing

If you want one file to repeat

Select the Media Source, open its properties, and enable Loop. That makes the same file play again when playback completes. Turn Loop off if you want that single file to stop at the end. This setting does not make OBS move to another video.

If you want several local videos to play in order

  1. Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source to be available. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
  2. In OBS, select Sources → + → VLC Video. If the source is absent, confirm VLC is installed and its architecture matches OBS.
  3. Open the VLC Video source properties and add the local clips to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
  4. Enable Loop Playlist if playback should return to the first clip after the final one. Leave it off if the playlist should end after the last clip.
  5. Start playback and check that the listed files are in the intended order.

OBS documents Loop for repeating a Media Source file and Loop Playlist for repeating a VLC Video playlist in its Media Sources documentation.

Fix a YouTube playlist shown in Browser Source

A Browser Source loads a web page from its URL field. When that page contains YouTube, changing the Loop option on a separate Media Source cannot control the YouTube player.

  1. Open or inspect the YouTube page used by the Browser Source and make sure the playing video is part of the playlist you intend to show.
  2. Use YouTube’s playlist controls to set repeat behavior. YouTube Help describes looping a video or playlist in its loop videos or playlists instructions.
  3. If the playlist should play through once and stop, do not enable playlist repeat. If it should start over after the final video, enable the playlist loop control.

For an embedded YouTube playlist configured through code, distinguish advancing through the playlist from repeating the whole playlist. Google’s IFrame Player API says playlists do not loop by default and documents setLoop(true) for playlist looping.

OBS’s Browser Source documentation describes loading a web page and options such as refreshing it when a scene becomes active or shutting it down while hidden. It does not guarantee YouTube-specific autoplay or playlist progression. If a YouTube embed still stops or behaves unexpectedly, an OBS setting alone may not resolve it.

Optional: use a community embed script cautiously

An OBS community resource provides an example embedded-player script with options for multiple video IDs, autoplay, and looping: YouTube Embed for Browser Source. This is community-maintained, not an official OBS fix or a compatibility guarantee. Treat it as optional, and verify that it works with your current OBS and YouTube behavior before relying on it.

Troubleshoot by symptom

What you see Likely cause What to do
The same local clip starts over Media Source’s Loop option repeats its one file. Turn off Loop to stop at the end, or use VLC Video with a playlist to advance through multiple local clips.
VLC Video is not available in the Sources menu VLC may not be installed, or its architecture may not match OBS. Install VLC; use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
A local playlist stops after its final clip Loop Playlist is not enabled. Enable Loop Playlist in VLC Video properties if you want playback to start over.
A YouTube video plays, but the next playlist item does not appear The Browser Source is showing a page whose YouTube player controls progression; the video may not be in the intended playlist, or the playlist repeat behavior may not be set as desired. Check the playlist membership and use YouTube’s playlist controls. Do not expect Media Source’s Loop setting to control the web player.
An embedded YouTube playlist plays through once and stops Playlist looping defaults off in the IFrame Player API. If you configure the embed with code and want the list to repeat, use the API’s documented setLoop(true) behavior.
A Browser Source stops or behaves differently than expected OBS’s general Browser Source settings do not promise YouTube-specific autoplay or playlist behavior. Check the YouTube player and playlist first; treat third-party scripts as optional rather than guaranteed fixes.
