Oakley Meta Vanguard is a sport-focused line of AI glasses announced by Meta on September 17, 2025. Its published features include a centered 12 MP camera, hands-free video capture, open-ear audio, and Garmin-related workout functions when paired with a compatible Garmin device. Meta announced a US launch price of $499 and an October 21, 2025 launch date; those are launch details, not a statement of today’s price or availability.
What Oakley Meta Vanguard is
Meta positioned Vanguard as Performance AI glasses for high-intensity sports. They combine Oakley eyewear with a camera, microphones, speakers, voice controls, and Meta AI features. Meta says the glasses can capture activity footage hands-free and connect with fitness services; those are manufacturer-described capabilities, not independently measured athletic or camera results.
Meta’s September 17, 2025 announcement named initial markets including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, several European countries, and Australia. It said the company was working toward later availability in Mexico, India, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates. That was the plan announced at the time, not confirmation of current availability in those markets. Meta’s announcement
Camera, audio and frame specifications
Meta describes a centered 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens and hands-free 3K video capture. Camera modes include Slow Motion, Hyperlapse, and adjustable video stabilization. Oakley’s US listing for model OW8001-010, the black-frame, Prizm Road version, separately specifies video acquisition formats of 720p at 120 fps and 2203 × 2938 at 30 fps. Those technical fields should not be treated as interchangeable with the marketing label “3K.”

That same Oakley listing specifies 32 GB flash storage, two open-ear speakers, a five-microphone array, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and touch and voice controls. Meta describes a wraparound frame with Oakley PRIZM lens technology and a Three-Point Fit system. It includes three replaceable nose pads, including low- and high-bridge options, and is designed to work with cycling helmets and hats. The listing gives 20% light transmission for the Prizm Road lens variant only; it should not be generalized to other lenses. Oakley US product listing

Garmin workout metrics
With a compatible Garmin device, Meta says users can ask Meta AI for real-time workout metrics, including pace or heart rate. The glasses’ status LED can provide feedback against a selected metric, and Meta describes automatic video capture around activity milestones or changes in workout metrics. Oakley says Garmin devices are sold separately, so the glasses alone do not supply Garmin workout data.

Strava and post-workout summaries
Meta and Oakley describe sharing activities with Strava and adding performance-metric overlays to captured photos and videos. Meta also describes post-workout activity summaries through connections with Garmin Connect, Apple Health, or Android Health Connect. These are published capabilities; the available product materials do not establish independent integration performance.
Examples in Meta’s announcement include asking, “Hey Meta, what’s my heartrate?” or “Hey Meta, how am I doing?” Oakley gives “Hey Meta, what’s my pace?” as another example. These illustrate the intended voice interaction, rather than guaranteeing that every metric or feature is available in every location or configuration. Meta announcement · Oakley product listing

Water and dust resistance
Meta and Oakley give Vanguard an IP67 dust- and water-resistance rating. Oakley’s comparison material lists the more everyday-oriented Oakley Meta HSTN at IPX4 and distinguishes Vanguard by its wraparound sport design, Garmin-focused training features, and sport camera modes. The ratings are product specifications, not independent durability or comfort tests. Oakley Meta comparison
Battery life and charging
Oakley estimates up to nine hours on one charge with moderate use, up to six hours of continuous audio playback or voice calling, and up to 36 additional hours from a fully charged case. These are maximum manufacturer estimates; Oakley says actual results vary with use, configuration, settings, and other factors. Meta also said a quick charge could bring the glasses to 50% in 20 minutes in the case. Oakley says the charging cable is not included. Oakley product listing · Meta announcement
