An O.MG Cable is a USB cable made by Hak5 that contains a concealed electronic implant. Dormant, it passes USB 2.0 data and charging like an ordinary cable. Activated, it can act as a keyboard or mouse and carry out other functions, which is why Hak5 sells it as a red-team tool for authorized security testing and training, not as a charging accessory.
What the term refers to
“O.MG” is the name of a product line from Hak5, a security-tools company. The O.MG Cable is a physical USB cable, and the implant is built into it. Hak5 describes the cable as hand-made, with the implant hidden inside, and calls it a covert field-use tool for red teams. The word “charging” in the phrase is accurate only in a narrow sense: the cable can pass charging current, but that is a side function of a device designed for other purposes.
How the cable behaves in its two states
The useful way to understand the product is as two modes that share the same housing.
Dormant mode: a pass-through cable
According to Hak5’s product documentation, the implant stays dormant until a payload is deployed. In that state the cable behaves as a normal USB 2.0 cable, with 480 Mbps data transfer and 5 V maximum charging. Hak5’s firmware documentation says the active end must be connected to a USB host, and the other end to a 5 V maximum charge source, for passthrough charging to work.

Active mode: an input device with extra functions
Once a payload is loaded and deployed, the implant can emulate input devices. Hak5 lists keystroke injection and mouse injection as core features. The Wi-Fi interface provides control functions that the vendor describes in its product listing. Elite-tier models add a hardware keylogger, a stealth networking feature called HIDX StealthLink, and encrypted network command-and-control.
Self-destruct and triggers
Both tiers list self-destruct, geofencing, and Wi-Fi triggers. Hak5’s listing describes these as vendor-defined behaviours; it does not publish independent testing of how reliably they operate in the field.

Basic and Elite tiers compared
Hak5 currently lists two generations. Its specifications are stated as based on devices running the latest beta firmware, so they may change with later releases. Figures below are vendor claims from Hak5’s product page as it stood in 2026, not measurements by an independent lab.

Length, connectors and configuration
The standard O.MG Cable is one meter long. Hak5 also lists a custom version of about two meters, which it describes as otherwise identical. Configuration options on the product page cover the active end, the passthrough end, connector type, colour and material. Connector and appearance options vary by listing, so check the exact configuration you are buying against the live Hak5 page.

The O.MG Programmer
Devices ship in a deactivated state. Hak5 says the O.MG Programmer is the tool used to activate a device, install firmware upgrades, and recover a device after a lockout. According to the product page, the WebFlasher works in WebSerial-capable browsers such as Chrome and Edge, and an alternate Python flasher is also available. The Programmer is a separate purchase from the cable.
Intended use and limits
Hak5’s product page says the cable is “designed to allow your Red Team to emulate attack scenarios of sophisticated adversaries.” The same page presents it for defensive detection testing and training. Hak5’s official payload repository says its gear is intended for authorized auditing and security analysis where permitted.

Use of the device should be limited to an assessment or training environment that is explicitly authorized and scoped. Owning or buying the cable does not give permission to use it against another person’s equipment, and the vendor listing should not be read as such permission.
How to check what you are dealing with
- Confirm the product identity against Hak5’s own listing rather than a third-party page, since the cable is sold by Hak5 and documented by it.
- Treat the Basic and Elite specifications as vendor claims that may change with firmware.
- Do not rely on appearance to tell the cable from an ordinary one; the implant is hidden inside by design.
- Expect charging only up to 5 V, which is the vendor’s stated maximum for passthrough charging.
In short, an O.MG Cable is a working USB 2.0 cable with a hidden input-device implant. It is defined by that implant and its authorized security-testing purpose, not by its charging performance.
