NVIDIA’s January 2025 healthcare announcement named four collaborators—IQVIA, Illumina, Mayo Clinic and Arc Institute—with plans spanning life-sciences workflows, genomic analysis, digital pathology and biology models. The companies described work in development, not proven clinical benefits. A later June 2025 collaboration with Novo Nordisk added another drug-research initiative tied to NVIDIA’s Gefion supercomputer.
What NVIDIA announced in January 2025
At the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference on January 13, 2025, NVIDIA outlined collaborations intended to apply accelerated computing and AI across healthcare and life sciences. The four named partners have distinct roles: IQVIA is focused on life-sciences workflows, Illumina on genomics and multiomics, Mayo Clinic on pathology, and Arc Institute on foundational biology models. NVIDIA’s announcement characterizes the work as plans and development efforts; it also cautions that statements about benefits, impact, availability, performance, adoption and third-party offerings are forward-looking.

The announcement calls healthcare and life sciences a $10 trillion industry. That is NVIDIA’s characterization, not an independently validated market estimate in the cited material. The practical significance of the partnerships is better understood by looking at what each one is intended to build and where it fits.

IQVIA: models and agents for research workflows
NVIDIA said IQVIA was using NVIDIA AI Foundry to build custom foundation models drawing on IQVIA information and domain expertise. NVIDIA described the underlying information volume as more than 64 petabytes; that figure is reported by NVIDIA in its January 2025 announcement, not an independent measurement presented here.

The planned agentic AI solutions use NVIDIA AI Enterprise, NIM microservices and Blueprints. Intended support areas include research, clinical development and access to treatments. An NVIDIA-authored IQVIA blog discusses potential clinical-trial workflows such as site selection, participant recruitment, regulatory submissions and communication between study sites and sponsors. Those examples describe possible applications, not evidence that the systems have automated those tasks or improved trial results.
Illumina: genomic analysis and multiomics
The companies said they planned to make Illumina DRAGEN analysis software available on NVIDIA accelerated computing within Illumina Connected Analytics. NVIDIA described the aim as expanding access to DRAGEN wherever NVIDIA computing is available. The partners also planned further multiomics analysis and biology foundation-model work for research and pharmaceutical workflows. These are integration and development plans, not a report of validated clinical utility.
Mayo Clinic: pathology foundation models
NVIDIA said Mayo Clinic’s digital pathology work would use a dataset comprising 20 million whole-slide images and 10 million associated patient records. These figures are reported by NVIDIA in its January 2025 release. Mayo Clinic was planning to deploy NVIDIA DGX Blackwell systems and MONAI for model development; NVIDIA reported 1.4TB of GPU memory per system.

- Blackwell Architecture
- 24GB GDDR7 with PCIe 5.0 & Ray Tracing
- AI Workstation
The stated work concerns developing pathology models from images and associated records. The announcement does not establish that the models independently diagnose patients or have improved patient outcomes.
Arc Institute: models spanning biological modalities
Arc Institute and NVIDIA described a collaboration to develop and share biology models and tools. The goal is models that can generalize across DNA, RNA and protein modalities, with possible research applications in drug discovery, synthetic biology, disease and evolution. NVIDIA said it would contribute large-scale model-development expertise, BioNeMo on DGX Cloud, NIM microservices and Blueprints. The announcement sets out a research ambition rather than a completed model result.
What the partnerships could mean for drug discovery
Drug discovery is a theme across these collaborations, but the work addresses different parts of the research process. IQVIA’s announced focus is on information-driven research and clinical-development workflows. Illumina’s is on genomic and multiomics analysis. Mayo Clinic’s is on pathology data and models, while Arc Institute’s is on biology models that span molecular modalities. Taken together, these plans show where NVIDIA and its partners intend to apply AI and computing; they do not show that a drug has been discovered faster, a treatment has become more effective, or clinical care has changed.

- NVIDIA Ampere Architecture-based CUDA Cores - Double-speed processing for single-precision floating point (FP32) operations and improved power efficiency provide significant performance improvements for graphics and simulation workflows, such as complex 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE), on the desktop.
- Second-Generation RT Cores - With up to 2X the throughput over the previous generation and the ability to concurrently run ray tracing with either shading or denoising capabilities, second-generation RT Cores deliver massive speedups for workloads like photorealistic rendering of movie content, architectural design evaluations, and virtual prototyping of product designs. This technology also speeds up the rendering of ray-traced motion blur for faster results with greater visual accuracy.
- Third-Generation Tensor Cores - New Tensor Float 32 (TF32) precision provides up to 5X the training throughput over the previous generation to accelerate AI and data science model training without requiring any code changes. Hardware support for structural sparsity doubles the throughput for inferencing. Tensor Cores also bring AI to graphics with capabilities like DLSS, AI denoising, and enhanced editing for select applications.
- Third-Generation NVIDIA NVLink - Increased GPU-to-GPU interconnect bandwidth provides a single scalable memory to accelerate graphics and compute workloads and tackle larger datasets.
- 48 Gigabytes (GB) of GPU Memory - Ultra-fast GDDR6 memory, scalable up to 96 GB with NVLink, gives data scientists, engineers, and creative professionals the large memory necessary to work with massive datasets and workloads like data science and simulation.
NVIDIA’s current healthcare partner directory presents partner-solution claims that include shortening drug-candidate development from 4–6 years to 2–3 years and reducing molecules synthesized and tested by 5X. Those claims appear in a partner-solution context on NVIDIA’s directory; they should not be attributed to the January 2025 collaborations or treated as independently verified results.
Novo Nordisk collaboration adds a later example
On June 11, 2025, NVIDIA announced a separate collaboration with Novo Nordisk connected to DCAI’s Gefion sovereign AI supercomputer. The companies said they aimed to create customized models and agents for early research and clinical development and to explore simulation and physical AI. NVIDIA listed BioNeMo, NIM, NeMo and Omniverse among the software involved. The June announcement is a later example of the drug-discovery theme, not evidence that the January partnerships delivered their intended results.
Quick Recap
How to read the announcements
- Separate intent from outcomes. The releases describe collaborations, planned integrations, infrastructure deployments and research goals. They do not establish clinical efficacy or realized patient benefits.
- Keep metrics attributed. Data volumes, dataset sizes, system specifications and market estimates cited here are figures reported by NVIDIA in its announcements.
- Compare by workstream, not as competing products. The partners address different data types and stages of research, so the announcements do not provide a head-to-head performance comparison.
- Recognize the audience. The described platforms, software and computing infrastructure are aimed primarily at healthcare institutions, researchers and pharmaceutical or biotechnology organizations, not individual consumers.
