The NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX Developer Kit is an end-of-life board, but owners can still set it up with an imaged microSD card and the right peripherals. The kit pairs a P3668-0000 Xavier NX module with a P3509-0000 carrier board; it is distinct from the Xavier NX production modules, which NVIDIA lists separately. This guide covers the hardware, first boot, and the documented JetPack 5.1.6 upgrade route.
What the Xavier NX Developer Kit is—and its current status
NVIDIA marks the Jetson Xavier NX Developer Kit as end of life and no longer available for purchase on its getting-started page. That status applies to the developer kit, not necessarily to every Xavier NX product: NVIDIA distinguishes the kit’s P3668-0000 module from other production module variants in its Jetson Linux Developer Guide 35.6.5.
The kit combines a P3668-0000 module and a P3509-0000 reference carrier board. NVIDIA’s guide identifies the developer kit as P3518-0000. A production module and a developer kit are not interchangeable descriptions: the kit includes the carrier board and accessories needed to get started, while the module is one component of that system.
Hardware and connections
The figures below are NVIDIA specifications for the Xavier NX module and developer kit, not results from independent testing. NVIDIA states that the module can deliver up to 14 TOPS at 10W and 21 TOPS at 15W or 20W; these are manufacturer performance specifications, not benchmark results.

The carrier board provides Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.1 Type-A ports, USB 2.0 Micro-B, HDMI, DisplayPort, a 40-pin expansion header, and MIPI CSI camera connections. Consult NVIDIA’s Xavier NX specifications for the manufacturer’s current product details.

The microSD card and basic setup peripherals are not included. You will also need a separate Internet-connected computer capable of writing the image to the card.
- A microSD card of at least 32GB, rated UHS-I. Check NVIDIA’s live image instructions for the current requirements before buying.
- A USB keyboard and mouse.
- A display with HDMI or DisplayPort input, plus the appropriate cable.
- An Internet-connected computer with a way to write the Xavier NX image to the card.
Set up the card and boot the kit
NVIDIA maintains operating-system-specific card-writing instructions on its getting-started page. Use that page to select the appropriate image and current writing method rather than relying on an old image filename or copied command.

- On an Internet-connected computer, download the Xavier NX Developer Kit SD-card image using NVIDIA’s current getting-started instructions.
- Write the image to a 32GB-or-larger UHS-I microSD card using the instructions for your computer’s operating system.
- Insert the imaged card into the microSD slot on the underside of the module.
- Connect an HDMI- or DisplayPort-capable display, USB keyboard, and USB mouse.
- Connect the supplied 19V power supply. The board powers on automatically.
- On first boot, accept the Jetson software EULA, then choose language, keyboard layout, and time zone. Connect to a wireless network and create a username, password, and device name.
JetPack 5.1.6: image and QSPI prerequisite
NVIDIA’s documented route to JetPack 5.1.6 for this kit is not to assume that a 5.1.6 SD-card image is the starting point. The JetPack SDK 5.1.6 instructions direct users to start with the JetPack 5.1.5 / Jetson Linux 35.6.2 SD-card image and then upgrade through APT to JetPack 5.1.6.
There is an additional prerequisite if the developer kit has never run a JetPack 5.x release: update its QSPI first, following the relevant instructions in NVIDIA’s Jetson Linux Developer Guide. Do not skip that step when preparing a kit with no JetPack 5.x history.

The Jetson Linux Developer Guide 35.6.5 describes JetPack as a development resource that includes Jetson Linux, accelerated libraries, APIs, sample applications, developer tools, and documentation. That version-specific documentation does not establish that the Xavier NX Developer Kit is supported by every newer JetPack release, so verify compatibility against the release-specific NVIDIA documentation before choosing an upgrade path.
