Neither GeForce nor Radeon is reliably easier to buy at a fair price across the whole lineup. The better deal depends on the exact GPU model, the live offer and seller, and whether its performance and features suit your games or workload. In a U.S. price snapshot dated October 3, 2026, an RX 9070 XT was listed 28.5% above launch MSRP, while an RTX 5070 was 23.1% above its launch MSRP—evidence that one model’s pricing cannot settle the brand comparison.
What counts as a fair price?
Start with the card’s current checkout price, then compare it with the model’s launch suggested retail price (MSRP). MSRP is a historical reference, not a promise that a card is currently available at that amount. The offer also needs to be in stock, from a seller you trust, and acceptable after shipping and return terms are considered.
Compare the specific GPU and board-partner card, not just “RTX” against “RX.” Different versions can have different memory configurations, cooling designs, prices, and availability. Tom’s Hardware says its U.S. tracker lists the lowest available price by GPU SKU regardless of card manufacturer, so a listed low price still needs checking against the exact card and seller.
What the October 2026 price snapshot shows
VideoCardPrices.com’s U.S.-dollar index on October 3, 2026, reported an index value of 86.0, which it defines as the tracked set’s average cheapest live street price being 14.0% below launch MSRP. That is an aggregate across older and newer GPUs, not a direct GeForce-versus-Radeon score. Its methodology counted 22 GPUs with both a published launch MSRP and a live listing, excluding six of 28 tracked products.

| GPU | Tracked price, Oct. 3, 2026 | Launch MSRP | Difference vs. MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5090 | $4,345 | $1,999 | +117.4% |
| GeForce RTX 5080 | $1,490 | $999 | +49.1% |
| Radeon RX 9070 XT | $769.99 | $599 | +28.5% |
| GeForce RTX 5070 | $676 | $549 | +23.1% |
| Radeon RX 7800 XT | $499.99 | $499 | +0.2% |
| Radeon RX 7600 | $259 | $269 | -3.7% |
These are one-day tracker figures, not stable prices or universal brand results. The contrast within each lineup matters: the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 were far above launch MSRP, while the RTX 5070 was closer; Radeon examples ranged from above MSRP to approximately at or below it. The index’s exclusions also mean its average cannot describe every GPU on sale.
Why the exact offer matters more than the brand
Check stock and the full checkout cost
A low displayed figure is not a deal if the item is unavailable, the seller is unreliable, or shipping pushes the total well above alternatives. Confirm that the listing is for the exact model and variant you intend to buy, then inspect stock, seller identity, delivery cost, and return terms. Price trackers are useful starting points, but offers can change between the snapshot and your purchase.

Compare like-for-like performance
Use independent, controlled benchmarks for the games and applications you actually use, at your target resolution and settings. Avoid assuming that a result from a different game, preset, or workload predicts performance in yours. Vendor performance claims can help explain a product’s intended strengths, but they should be read with the vendor’s stated test setup rather than treated as a universal comparison.

Include features only when you will use them
NVIDIA advertises RTX 50 features including DLSS, multi-frame generation, ray tracing, Reflex, NVIDIA App, and creator tools. AMD describes its RDNA 4 generation, ray tracing, AI accelerators, HYPR-RX, and FSR. These product pages establish what the companies offer; they do not establish a universal performance advantage. Check support in the specific games and applications that matter to you, and decide whether those features justify any price difference.

How to make the buying decision
- Choose the exact models first. Identify the GPU tier, memory variant, and board-partner cards you would actually consider.
- Find current offers from credible sellers. Verify stock and compare the final checkout cost, shipping, and return terms.
- Measure the premium or discount against launch MSRP. Treat it as context, not as a target price guaranteed to be available.
- Compare relevant benchmarks. Match game or workload, resolution, and settings as closely as possible.
- Value supported features for your own use. A feature matters when your software supports it and it improves your experience enough to justify the price.
- Recheck before buying. Trackers are dated snapshots; confirm the offer is still live and the exact SKU has not changed.
How to read the market guides
Tom’s Hardware’s October 2026 guide describes tightening supply and rising GPU prices, including some RTX cards far above MSRP. It also argues that software support shapes the experience and that price-to-performance wins can favor Radeon. Those are editorial conclusions, not controlled findings that apply to every card or buyer.
Its U.S. tracker, last updated September 28, 2026, reports lowest available offers for recent GPU SKUs and notes that model prices and availability differ. In that snapshot, it described RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 supply as unreasonably priced, while some lower-tier cards were closer to MSRP; it also noted that RX 9000 cards could be difficult to find at launch prices. Treat those observations as dated U.S. buying context, then verify the live listing.

Verdict: compare the card, not the logo
The available U.S. snapshots do not support naming GeForce or Radeon as the brand-wide winner for fair pricing. The October 3 figures show substantial price differences both between and within product families. Your best choice is the exact in-stock card whose final price, tested performance, and supported features make sense for your needs.
