Choose the Sony WH-1000XM6 if noise cancellation is your priority. The strongest direct review comparison available favors Sony, although it is one reviewer’s judgment—not a controlled, same-protocol test. Choose the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro if its design and features, including LDAC and USB-C audio, appeal more and its local price and carrying case suit you.
Which model has better noise cancellation?
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is the safer pick for buyers who want the strongest noise blocking. In a review of the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro, T3’s Max Freeman-Mills wrote that it “blocks more noise” than its predecessor but “still falls short of the best I’ve used in this price bracket (which remains Sony’s WH-1000XM6).” That is a reviewer’s comparative impression, not a standardized head-to-head measurement.
Nothing advertises up to 46 dB of active noise cancellation (ANC) for the Headphone (1) Pro, alongside ten microphones and a new silicone sound seal. The 46 dB figure is Nothing’s product claim; it cannot be directly compared with Sony’s microphone count or processor specifications to rank real-world performance. TechRadar’s reviewer was impressed by Nothing’s high ANC setting and transparency mode, but that review does not establish that it cancels more noise than Sony.
Sony says the WH-1000XM6 has 12 microphones and its HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which Sony describes as seven times faster than its predecessor. Its May 16, 2025 Australian launch release also describes real-time adaptive optimization. Sony’s “best noise cancelling” assertion in that release is scoped to its own research as of March 1, 2025, under the conditions stated in the release; it is not an independent current ranking. #1 Best Overall
- THE BEST NOISE CANCELLATION: Powered by advanced processors and an adaptive microphone system, the WH-1000XM6 headphones deliver real-time noise cancellation for an immersive, distraction-free listening experience.
- CO-CREATED WITH MASTERING AUDIO ENGINEERS: Developed in collaboration with world-renowned mastering audio engineers, these headphones deliver unparalleled sound clarity and precision. A specially designed driver with a lightweight carbon fiber dome delivers high fidelity sound, where rich vocals and every instrument remains pure and balanced. Optimized for advanced noise cancellation, the WH-1000XM6 headphones keep every frequency crisp and true to the artist’s intent.
- HD NOISE CANCELING PROCESSOR QN3: The HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3 is 7x faster than the QN1 (found in our WH-1000XM5 headphones), optimizing 12 microphones in real time for superior noise cancellation, sound quality, and call clarity. With more microphones than ever, we can precisely detect external noise and counteracts it with opposite soundwaves, delivering a new level of noise cancellation.
- ULTRA-CLEAR CALLS, FROM ANYWHERE: A six-microphone AI-based beamforming system, intelligent noise reduction technology, and wind-resistant design, work together to isolate your voice, filter out background noise, and ensure every word comes through crisp and clear—even in the busiest environments.
- COMPACT CARRYING CASE & FOLDABLE DESIGN: Crafted for durability and style, the foldable design features precision metalwork and a compact case with a magnetic closure—ready to go wherever you do.
For flights, commuting, or a noisy office, Sony has the clearer review-based advantage. If possible, try both with the type of background noise you encounter: fit and seal affect what you hear, and the available reviews do not provide a shared measurement protocol for these two current models.

| Headphone | Noise canceling on | Noise canceling off | Fast-charge or other detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing Headphone (1) Pro | T3 reports an estimated 30 hours. | Up to 68 hours at 50% volume, using AAC and default feature settings; measured in Nothing’s lab at 25°C. | Nothing claims a five-minute charge provides up to four hours of playback with ANC off. |
| Sony WH-1000XM6 | Up to 30 hours of continuous music playback. | Up to 40 hours of continuous music playback. | Sony lists a maximum 3.5-hour charge time. |
Nothing’s 68-hour result is a manufacturer laboratory figure with ANC off, not a promise for every listening setup. Volume, calls, source, wireless interference, features, and usage habits can change actual runtime. Sony’s published specification separately lists communications time of up to 24 hours with noise canceling on and 28 hours off; those are call-use figures, not the continuous-music numbers in the table. Codecs and Bluetooth
Sony lists SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 codec support, Bluetooth 5.3, and multipoint connection. Nothing promotes LDAC as well. Codec support only helps when the source device, software, and listening setup support the relevant format; the headphone’s specification alone does not guarantee that a particular phone or computer will use it.

USB-C and cable listening
Nothing’s launch coverage reports lossless USB-C audio up to 24-bit/192kHz and five head-tracked spatial-audio modes. Those features may matter if you want to listen over USB-C or use spatial audio, but compatibility and playback-mode details depend on the connected device and supported software. Sony’s specification lists a detachable single-sided cable and passive wired operation.
Broadcasting and feature compatibility
Nothing’s product page describes Auracast broadcasting. Availability of that feature depends on compatible devices and platforms; do not assume every phone, computer, or Bluetooth source supports it. Both models’ more advanced audio options are most useful when your source supports the format or mode you intend to use.

Which is more comfortable and easier to carry?
T3 found the Nothing Pro’s headband and earcup padding plusher and its headphone body lighter than the older Nothing Headphone (1). That is one reviewer’s fit experience, not a guarantee for every head shape or long listening session. The same review criticized the supplied case as bulky and lacking space for accessories, a practical drawback if you carry headphones in a crowded bag.
The cited reviews do not establish a directly comparable comfort verdict for the Sony WH-1000XM6. If comfort is decisive, try the fit in person when possible, especially if you wear glasses or plan to use either pair for several hours at a time.

Quick Recap
Which headphones should you buy?
- Buy the Sony WH-1000XM6 if noise cancellation is the deciding factor. The available direct review comparison favors Sony, and Sony publishes clear continuous-music battery figures for ANC-on and ANC-off use.
- Consider the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro if you prefer its design and feature set, especially USB-C audio, and are comfortable checking how its fit, case, and local price work for you.
- Compare both in person if long-session comfort or fit is more important than the feature list; reviewer impressions cannot predict how either model will feel on your head.
