You can undo or soften some iOS 27 changes in Settings, but there is no universal switch that restores every interface or feature to its previous state. Use the control for the specific item first. Resetting settings restores preferences—not the operating system—and leaving an installed beta for the current public iOS version requires erasing and restoring the iPhone.
Start with the control for the change you dislike
Apple documents separate options for Home Screen appearance, the Lock Screen, Control Center, motion effects, and Apple Intelligence. The available controls can vary by iPhone, region, language, and carrier, so check your own menus rather than assuming every device has the same options. Home Screen icons and widgets
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Tap Customize.
- Choose from the available size and appearance options. Apple lists small or large icons and light, dark, clear, or tinted appearances.
These options change the Home Screen’s appearance; they do not reverse every system-wide design change.
Lock Screen
Touch and hold the Lock Screen, select the wallpaper you want to edit, and customize its available elements. Apple documents options including widgets, clock size, and controls. The choices depend on the selected Lock Screen and device.

Control Center
Open Control Center and tap Add to add or arrange the available controls. This lets you adjust the layout and shortcuts, not restore an older version of iOS.
Soften motion and visual effects
Reduce motion
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn on Reduce Motion. Apple says this reduces motion effects, including fluid morphing effects. The setting changes how motion is presented; it does not remove every visual effect. See Apple’s Reduce screen motion guide.

Appearance controls
Some appearance options, including a Liquid Glass slider, may be available in the relevant display or appearance settings. The exact controls depend on the device and software version. If you do not see an option on your iPhone, that does not mean there is a general rollback setting elsewhere.
Turn off or restrict Apple Intelligence features
Apple provides Settings controls to turn off Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features. The available controls depend on the feature and your device; supported hardware, language, and region requirements apply. Apple identifies Siri AI as beta and notes additional availability limitations. Use an app’s own undo when the change is inside an app
Some edits can be reversed within the app that made them. For example, to undo a saved photo or video edit, open the item in Photos, tap More, then tap Revert to Original. This restores that item; it is not a way to roll back iOS settings. See Apple’s guide to reverting edited photos and videos.
Reset settings only if targeted changes are not enough
Reset All Settings returns many preferences to their defaults, but it does not downgrade iOS. Apple says this option does not delete data or media, although settings such as network, keyboard, location, and privacy preferences are reset, and Apple Pay cards are removed. Because it affects many preferences at once, try the specific control for the problem first.

If you installed an iOS beta and want the current public release, turning off future beta updates does not remove the beta already installed. Apple says that on iOS 16.4 or later you can go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and switch beta updates off; this prevents future beta updates but leaves the installed version in place.

To install the current public iOS version, Apple’s documented route is to erase and restore the iPhone using a computer. This is a whole-device change, unlike an appearance setting, and it erases the device. Follow Apple’s instructions for uninstalling iOS or iPadOS beta software before proceeding.
Plan for backups before restoring
Do not assume a backup made while using beta software can be restored to an earlier iOS version. Apple warns that beta-created backups may not be compatible with earlier versions and directs users to use an archived backup from before installing the beta. A backup from a newer iOS version can also require newer software before it can be restored. Check Apple’s backup guidance for beta software and make sure you understand what data you can recover before erasing the phone.
