There is no defensible single “best” compact impact driver in the available manufacturer specifications: the right pick depends on the fasteners and materials you use, working access, battery system, weight, and how much control you need. Among the listed examples, the 18 V Bosch GDR18V-215N has the highest published peak torque at 1,900 in-lb, while Milwaukee’s 4.4-inch M18 3651-20 is the shortest. Those are manufacturer figures, not results from a controlled head-to-head test.
Which compact impact driver fits your work?
Use the comparison as a shortlist, not a performance ranking. Specifications below come from the manufacturers’ product pages reviewed in 2026; the pages do not establish comparative real-world performance or long-term durability.
| Model | Published size and weight | Published power and control | Platform and context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milwaukee M18 Compact Brushless 3651-20 | 4.4 in long, 2.1 in wide; 1.7 lb tool-only | 1,700 in-lb peak torque; 0–3,600 rpm; 3-mode drive control | 18 V M18 system. Milwaukee describes its gearcase and gears as all-metal. Milwaukee Tool, 2026 |
| Bosch GDR18V-215N | 5 in long; 2.2 lb tool-only | 1,900 in-lb; 0–3,300 rpm; two speed/torque settings and preset screw modes | 18 V, AMPShare system. Bosch says its modes for wood and self-drilling metal screws help reduce workpiece and fastener damage. Bosch Tools, 2026 |
| Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3453-20 | 5 in long; 2 lb listed | Up to 1,500 in-lb; up to 3,600 rpm; four drive-control modes, including a dedicated self-tapping screw mode | 12 V M12 system; Milwaukee lists M12 battery and charger compatibility. Milwaukee Tool, 2026 |
| Bosch PS41N | 5.4 in long; 1.8 lb tool-only | 930 in-lb; 0–2,600 rpm; 0–3,100 ipm | 12 V Max with 1/4-in quick-release hex. Bosch positions it for overhead installation and tight spaces. Bosch Tools, 2026 |
| Bosch Professional GDR 12V-105 | 0.96 kg including battery in the listed configuration | 105 Nm; 0–2,600 rpm; 0–3,100 bpm | 12 V; Bosch identifies M4–M12 screw diameters and compatibility with Professional 12 V batteries and chargers. The page lists bare-tool and kit variants. Bosch Professional, 2026 |
| Milwaukee M12 BLIDRC (European listing) | 109 mm; 0.6 kg | 124 Nm; up to 3,000 rpm and 4,100 ipm | European model listing; do not assume its model number or kit maps directly to North American listings. Milwaukee Tool Europe, 2026 |
How to choose for heavy-duty professional use
Start with the fastener and material
List the fasteners you drive most often, their size, the material, and the frequency of use. Check that an impact driver’s 1/4-inch hex interface and the intended bit or nutsetter suit the job. Bosch lists the GDR 12V-105 for M4–M12 screws; that stated range applies to that model and should not be generalized to other drivers or applications.

Do not treat a 1/4-inch hex tool as a substitute for a wrench on lug nuts or other jobs that call for a different tool and interface.
#1 Best Overall
- High performance: delivers 1,460 in-lbs. Of torque and max 2,800 rpms/3,100 ipms for quick fastening applications
- Quick and easy: quickly release chuck for easy one-handed bit changes
- Improved visibility: LED light helps in dark work areas
- Applications: fastening screws, lag bolts, and large fasteners
- Includes: (1) CMCF800 impact driver; (1) V20 20-volt MAX 1.3-amp hour lithium ion battery; (1) V20 20-volt MAX lithium ion charger
Balance compactness against power and battery load
Compactness and published torque are separate considerations. In this group, the 4.4-inch Milwaukee M18 3651-20 is the shortest listed tool, while Bosch lists 1,900 in-lb for the 5-inch GDR18V-215N. The 12 V Milwaukee M12 FUEL 3453-20 is listed at up to 1,500 in-lb, showing that 12 V does not automatically mean low published torque. These cross-brand figures are not measured under identical conditions.
Voltage alone does not determine suitability. Consider access, the required fastener, how much work is overhead, and whether the battery platform you already own is a practical fit. A battery adds both size and weight: tool-only figures are not the carried weight of the working setup. Where possible, compare the complete tool-and-battery configuration you would actually use.
Rank #2
- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
Decide whether control modes matter
Multiple speed or drive modes can be useful when the job calls for controlled starts or different screw types. Milwaukee lists four modes, including a self-tapping screw mode, for the M12 FUEL 3453-20. Bosch lists two speed/torque settings and preset modes for self-drilling metal screws and wood screws on the GDR18V-215N. Bosch says those presets help reduce damage to the workpiece and fastener; this is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every user or application.
Check the battery system, configuration, and accessories
- Confirm the exact regional model number and whether the listing is a bare tool or kit.
- Check battery and charger compatibility within the relevant system: Bosch Professional 12 V, Bosch AMPShare, Milwaukee M12, or Milwaukee M18, as applicable.
- Compare the battery capacity and included items before comparing kit value; the product specifications alone do not establish current price, stock, or retailer contents.
- Use impact-rated bits or nutsetters that match the tool, fastener, and material. Bosch lists impact screwdriver bit sets and nutsetter sets for the GDR 12V-105; verify fit and regional availability.
What these specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Maximum or peak torque, speed, dimensions, and weight are useful for narrowing options, but manufacturer pages do not provide a controlled cross-brand performance test here. Different models may use different measurement descriptions, units, and weight configurations. Do not read the published torque figures as proof that one driver will perform better on every job.
Rank #3
- Brushless motor for increased runtime and durability
- Compact and lightweight for hard to reach areas
- LED light with 20 second delay after trigger release
- Includes: (1) DCF787 1/4 in. Impact Driver (1) DCB203 20V MAX* 2Ah Battery (1) DCB107 Charger (1) Belt Hook
Likewise, manufacturer positioning is not an independent category finding. Bosch calls the GDR 12V-105 “the most compact cordless impact driver in Bosch’s 12 V category”; that claim is Bosch’s description of its own category, not a comparison across brands. The available specifications do not establish comparative runtime, durability, noise, vibration, or workplace certification.
